haha I never heard of the AMC/AIME tests until I joined CC too =/
but I thought it was too late (found out end of Junior year)
maybe I should sign up for the AMC12 now?

how hard are USACO programs? and how exactly are the competitions run?

USACO is hard (I still can’t get into the Gold division)! Go Google past problems. The competitions are taken at home - you login and get 3 hours to code.

You ALL still have a chance RD.

Hey, I’ve been wondering…Does anyone think there are some people that they defer that they expect to accept RD, but for whatever reason want to hold off and make sure on it? Like if someone couldn’t take AP classes before senior year, maybe they just want to make sure you can handle college courses via the midyear report?? Or some other circumstance? I’m just wondering is all.

Of course. That’s why I made sure to get a 4.0 this semester lol

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: ???[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Good luck to all who got deferred and, of course, the obligatory AHHHHHH!!!

Question: looking back on the acceptances/deferrals i kind of don’t understand why i didn’t get in?
What is a good teacher rec? Mine both called me brillant and talked about how i always was interested in learning outside the classroom-is this enough or are these subpar?
Do decisions often come down to essays, is that perhaps what did me in?
Any suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated

oh, perhaps the choice of biology as a major?

They throw all the applications down the stairs and go down the stairs picking up the first 597 applications, which the label as accepted.

I have NO idea what makes you accepted or unaccepted…

Hahaha jon. I laughed out loud at that.

It seems rather random to me. That’s why I didn’t take a deferral personally.

Lmao @ jon. It totally seems that way! LoL

@ Whoamg: I guess it is because we have too similar stats that we end up killing each other in the admission decisions =)

LOL I can’t code for my life (although I have two years of exposure to Java and half a year of Python) – I don’t know, I understand how to code and stuff, but I don’t relish competing with it…haha.

I used the same research paper for Siemens for Intel STS. I don’t see how it will be less competitive than Siemens but at least it’s worth a shot. It would be a HUGE boost if I could get into their Semis - so here’s hoping.

And yeah, I’m really prepping for the next AMC 12. I hope to break 130 and finally become school winner (last year our record was something like 135 - he graduated).

In regard to AIME scores - you can’t find it anywhere online. Your math teacher has a record of all AIME scores and he should tell you what you got on the exam. Since there’s really no basis I guess people can lie on their application about AIME scores but I see little point in doing so…if you claim to get a 10 AIME when it is pretty obvious you are not up to par in math…well, imagine the consequences. =p

Good luck to you in RD! (Personally, I’m not that concerned about Princeton anymore. There are a lot of schools out there and as of now, it might be too difficult to get in RD since the Defer –> RD rate is so low).
