Actually, semi-finalist is the same no matter which state you are; you have to score at least a 96% to be one.

And according to 2004 status, the cutoff for semi-finalist is 199 (lowest 96%); so those who score higher than 199 this year, congrats, for you have already make it!!!

eh, i live in arkansas, and my school hasnt even gotten the scores yet (unless the counselors are lying…), and i go to like, the only important school in the state (central high, the infamous one, hehe).

lolzorz for those who were like GAH I ONLY GOT 215 AND I ALMOST MADE IT!!!

does anyone know the cutoff for arkansas? i think if i make like 207 or above ill be pretty safe, but i dunno

I think CR curves were harsh because of the exclusion of analogies. Usually you could expect a decent percentage to just “not get” the section (many people actually take the PSAT with no idea as to what is actually on it) and also those who did understand the concept would still miss several because the difficulty in analogies has very little to do with determining the relationship between words, instead it’s knowing what the word means. It’s very easy then to make difficult analogy questions that the majority won’t understand. On the other hand, short passages are about as difficult as long passages, perhaps easier, and students are more likely to answer them correctly. To compensate, I think the PSATs sentence completion used more difficult vocab (laconic by #3) but it didn’t entirely succeed.

don’t worry, last year as a sophmore I got 63 cr 61 math and a 54 writing for a total of 178…85 percentile…I was really embarrased
I’m still waiting on my scores this year…in georgia

Reasonabledad, I attend Shaler Area High School. I believe the counselors first got our scores last Friday, and distributed them in homeroom this Wednesday. You’re in NA? Nice to meet a fellow SW PAn! :)

I just need to say that I HATE MY GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT who have always been incredibly rude, unhelpful, and supressive, and who REFUSE to release scores until January!
