I’m pretty sure it’s 99th percentile. Someone at my school got 210 last year and it was 99th.

Just for comparison, my son got 210 this year and it says 98th percentile.

FOr all the ppl who took the test last year, what was the CR ( verbal ) curve?

I know for a fact that 210 was not 99th percentile last year. Grumpybear probably misheard. It should have been 98th. The verbal curve last year was something like
80 80 79 77 75 73 72 70 and 80 80 78 77 75 73 71 70 for the Weds and Sat editions. Much more generous than this year’s curves. This year’s verbal scores among the lowest ever reported.

haz, the curve this year totally makes sense because we have less questions:

last years total verbal question = 52, and that of this year = 48

the teastmaker have to do the bell curve system (which concentrate most population scores near the average of 49) each year, so the less verbal questions this year make the extrema (20 and 80) range very harsh!

I want my scores but I’m kind of dreading them. I totally screwed up the critical reading! Test was harder than the practice PSATs PR gave. Oh well, this motivates me to study harder for SAT. Good job to all you high scorers!

Does anyone have an explanation of why the CR curve was so horrible this year compared to the verbal curve last year? Doesn’t CB realize that the critical reading portion is what kills most ppl?

I missed two this year and still got an 80 in writing, i thought it was generous enough. Im sort of worried though, i only got a 73 in math and i don’t know if i’ll get commended. I got a 226 selection index. Will that make it?

226 will make national merit semi in any state. no need to worry.

My daughter has received a few bits of mail from colleges since receiving her scores…Johns Hopkins, Baylor, Baylor, Baylor (persistent they are), Rice, Alabama, Cornell… and an invitation to apply to the Telluride summer program. I’m curious about the Telluride thing…anyone have information?

what PSAT score did your D get?

218 in TX. She also has some national awards in addition to the usual h.s. achievements, but I’m not sure these schools would be aware of them. She did indicate she was Hispanic…does this make a difference to some of these schools?

Laurensmom - There are a few Telluride (TASP) threads. Do a search for TASP.

Thanks over30! Found tons of TASP info at h.s. life … seems like a really exciting program.

I got a 226 and people say that will probalby make National Merit, so i’m extremely happy. But what does National Merit actually get you? Will it stand out in an application? Could you ride National merit into ivy league? How impressive is it really?

I got a 185- and I’m 100% happy about it. :)

I am so excited about my scores … 77 CR, 73 Math, and 76 WS … 226 total … definitely Semi-Finalist material … In TX, last yr’s cut off was around 216 … YAY!! :)

Cong, 226 will prolly get you to the semi round in any state

my school did not give the scores back yet…are we the only ones? by the way, i got a program for the harvard summer program saying that it was because i scored high on the PSATs. do you think that means i scored high? how high?

Hey,

I got something like that, but I was lucky enough to get my scores 2 weeks ago. I threw away the Harvard stuff, but I got a 223.
