Official PSAT Score Thread

that’s what i’ve been wondering, is there a correlation between college mail and psat scores? i’ve gotten basically nothing this year but was overwhelmed with spam with mail last year (200)… could people post scores with how much mail they’ve received?

206 soph…any good?..aiming for 225/230 next year because the semifinalist cutoff for overseas is overwhelmingly high (222 for the class of 2004 @@")

If you haven’t heard from Wash U begging you to apply so they could reject you, it means ETS threw away your name and address.

there was a correlation between college mail and recieving my score, but I didn’t do very well, so I don’t think the bulk of my mail is correlated to my score (185, black)

227 junior, 217 soph
CR-67
M-80
W-80

Since I live in Nevada, I have nothing to worry about since the selection index for NV has always been (not surprisingly) low: 201, 204, 207.

Yalebound72, I also get tons of information from Wash U. I was even considering applying, although it does get annoying.

strange indeed  anyone know how we find out whether we subscribed to the college mail thing or not?

Yale-bound…few questions for you.

Where do you get your information that only 1 of 20,000 scores 240? Why do you think there are an excessive number of kids posting perfect scores at this board? (I am only aware of a very small handful.) Have you been accepted to Yale? (Lucky you, if you have.)

BTW, these kids HAVE a life. The students who post on this board are self-motivated, high achievers with their eye on the ball. Would that we all have had such a ‘life’ at 16.

It has been quite a few years since I graduated from college and the college experience has changed so much since the ‘stone age’, so I appreciate every scrap of information posted by students and their parents at this board.

" but I didn’t do very well, so I don’t think the bulk of my mail is correlated to my score (185, black)"

That’s not a bad score. More than 75% of the test takers scored lower than you. You did very well. Remember, too, that the test takers are college-bound students, so in general, only the brightest students bother to take the test.

Sorry, it’s more like 1 in 2000 who get a 240 on the PSAT

As a point of reference, 1 in 1,500 got a 1600 on the 2003 SAT, out of 1.41 million who took the test.

This is based on ETS data.

Pollsters have noted a distinct tendency for people to exagerrate their information to make themselves look better, even in anonymous polls.

whats ETS?

soph 190
junior 231

I haven’t gotten much mail…but it came in floods last year

ETS is “Educational Testing Service”.

i got owned :frowning: 202 here… oh well, commended is not so bad. hopefully with some prep and confidence, i’ll do better when i sit for the sat :P

er edit: breakdown was 64 v, 66 m (***fff) and 72 writing.

there’s about 20 lbs of college mail sitting around my closet, if you’re interested =)

My school FINALLY gave scores back. I got 226 (69 V 76 M 80 CR), and live in Minnesota. Does anyone know what the selection index cutoff for semi-finalist is in MN?

Wow, I definitely meant 225 not 226

No worries, cutoff for MN is about 215 this year. congrats!

Meh. I was so proud of my PSAT score (I"m from a small redneck town in Virginia) but looking at ur guys truly humbled me. Heh, no worries though

Verbal - 73
Math - 76
Grammar - 70

219

Anyone have any ideas on the cutoff for semifinalists for the scholarship in Virginia?

For the cutoffs reference page two of this thread. Haha, the VA cutoff IS 219. Good job!

In 2003, 846,140 juniors took the PSAT.
In 2004, 1,032,912 juniors took the (new) PSAT.

Should the much higher number of students in 2004 increase the total number of
NMS Semifinalists?
Why does NMS Corp. says “about 55,000” will earn recognition, which is the same count as before (for 2003 juniors)?

I"m sorry but could someone please explain this cutoff business? and if i made the cut off, will that mean i’m will be a semi finalist?
