*OFFICIAL PSAT THREAD 2014 (US)*

Thanks PAMom21. I hope I’ll qualify. I got 217, so it’s still kind of doubtful.

Sorry @balrog29, I’ve only really looked closely at the PA data, and that took some time to compile since you have to open so many reports. If you are concerned though, focus on Alabama’s cuts for the past 5 years or so, in comparison to the number of high scorers in each subject in that 70+ range.

@PAMOM21 Alright I’ll try that, thanks for the advice!

Does anyone have a digital copy of the test?

no, I did not get a digital copy but if you go a few pages( actually probably a lot back) you can find palms method nd that shows the question and answer

@balrog29 I think you’ve discovered you can’t compare across states. However they do it, the cutoff doesn’t seem to have jumped more than a few points in a year, so I would guess you are safe with 211 (but don’t sue me if I’m wrong).

@crowlady‌ That still wouldn’t explain the fact that DC is supposed to go up considerably according to the method, unless DC is supposed to go above 224(it was 224 last year and a cutoff has never been above 224).

I hope your guess is right lol

I am pretty sure the commendation cut will be 201 for class of 2016.

I am pretty sure the commendation cut will be 201 for class of 2016.

I absolutely agree, though I contend there is a SLIGHT possibility it could end up at 200, given decrease.

Ok so I got a 203, and I guess that means I get commended in my very high scoring New England state lol can someone explain the ramifications of getting commended scholar? Is it just a letter in the mail??

@nsliyromanov‌ - First of all, congratulations on your score! I am optimistic that you will be identified as a Commended Scholar! While it does not translate to money and scholarships, I would be extremely proud to count yourself among the top 3% of over 1.5 million test takers on the PSAT. I count myself as one who believes this is something to be celebrated amongst all of your high school accolades! Again, congrats!

Greetings! According to the recently released PSAT/NMSQT 2014 State Summary Reports, do you think that the semifinalist cutoff in MA will likely to be lowered from 224 last year to 223? Thanks!

I know this question is asked pretty often, but does anyone know how the TASP letters correlate to PSAT scores? I still don’t know mine, but I got a letter from TASP in December recommending that I apply. I’m curious as to how that will relate to my ability to qualify for NMSF. Also, is there any time deadline I should be afraid of passing before I receive my score? I’m probably just being paranoid, but isn’t it weird that my school has still yet to pass out the scores?

@in2history You should contact College Board and explain that your school hasn’t yet given out your results. I also thought there were emails to people directly from College Board (after the schools were supposed to inform you). Nobody at your school has gotten results? That is strange. Have you tried to get to your results using the methods way back in earlier messages in this thread?

I found out the website lets you in without an access code in the month of February. So I did get my scores, but that makes me one of two students in my class of 150 to get them.

If you are trying to predict cutoff scores, be sure to look at the actual number of students - not just the percentage of students - in a score range. Unless roughly the same number of students tested in your state this year, the percentiles don’t mean anything. Last year Texas had a huge increase in the number of test-takers and that skewed the percentiles in each score range.

It looks like Texas had a big increase in the number of test-takers again this year. Why does that make a difference if you are looking at percentages?

nationally it looks like there was a decrease of a total of 1.1 points. i wonder what this means for certain states. any information on massachusetts?
@harrykong

Based on my recent mail (and even a phone call from OU) that colleges received my PSAT score from College Board. I don’t suppose colleges have any information about state cutoff scores other than the historical figures. Just curious. My score was five points above last year’s cutoff for Missouri, but I guess I won’t know for sure about NM status until September.
