Official Questbridge National College Match 2010-2011

I was not matched, but I have received letters from QuestBridge partner schools since the match decision, even some I didn’t rank. Can this be taken as a sign that I will be automatically accepted in RD?

TMB75074, it means they are hoping QB finalists will submit their app for RD.

For all of you who weren’t matched, make sure you have plans for a financial safety school as you finalize your applications! This could be your state university to which you will apply for scholarships, a community college, whatever. The most important school on your list is one to which you know you will be accepted and know you will be able to afford to attend.

fueledbyrick, so far as I know as long as you’re a QB finalist, if accepted by a partner school you’re considered a Quest Scholar. I’ve never heard of the application used making the difference–just being a finalist.

2blue, thanks

I was hoping this was a more promising sign…

Unfortunately, no. Arguably, one of the main reasons colleges use QB is to increase their application numbers and matriculation rates while decreasing acceptance rates. The ease of forwarding the QB application allows schools to add hundreds to the number of applicants they get

Hey guys I am a fellow questbridge finalist that was not matched to any school and I was wondering if any of you regular decision applicants could help me with a problem I have.

If i have already sent some of the items (w2 forms and CSS profiles) to the colleges I ranked do I have to resend them for the regular decision process???

No. They still have all your documents on file.

@fueledbyrick: Quest Scholars are any finalists that got accepted to a QB partner school, so admission through ED or RD doesn’t make a difference in becoming a Quest Scholar.

I really think the Quest Scholar is a great program because it gives some more opportunity for economically disadvantaged students to build leadership skills and interact/mentor other students as well. I really hope I can become a Quest Scholar!

Hello,

Here is an email that I sent and received from Princeton:

Me: I am a QuestBridge Finalist who was not matched through the College Match program. However, I am still very interested in the University and I am concerned about my chances of getting in to Princeton through Regular Decision, especially since Princeton specified to me previously that they do not consider financial information in the match process (thus I know that my family’s income was not the reason for not getting matched). Is there a certain criteria that is considered in the College Match process that is not considered in Regular Decision?

Thank you very much for all of your time and help.

Princeton: We apply the same rigorous selection criteria in the College Match process as we do in Regular Decision. There is no difference.

Does this mean that since they apply the same standards, I shouldn’t expect to get in RD? Is there a difference between what they look at in the match and in RD? Because I’m not sure why the match rates for Princeton are so much lower than regular admissions rates if they give the same financial packages during both entry cycles.

Thanks!

^
No, you are fine. In their response they are only addressing selection criteria. In RD, admissions decisions will be completely seperate from FA.

^^The match round heavily favors first generation and URM applicants. Also, for example, Yale matches about 22 QB finalists each year. However, they accept another ~75 QB finalists during RD.

A quick question guys, for colleges that take the QB application in lieu of their own, and are also common app schools. For example, Rice University will take my QB app, but is also a Common App School.

Can I submit the common application for transcript and school forms purposes? I’m confused on how I’m suppose to get that to them.

Also, of the forms I sent QB, what gets to the colleges? Are the transcripts and school forms covered?

Sorry if this has been answered, but I wasn’t sure how to word the question.

Thanks in advance!

@therazor302,
To send in school forms to Rice, you need to send your teachers and counselors email requests through the Common App. Enter in their information and they will be asked to fill out the form and submit it online. You’ll see the dates of when a school official submits a form, and once the “School Forms” section has all the materials needed to be submitted, then you can send it to a school.

If you have already sent in transcripts and test scores to a QB partner school for ED, then they still have those in record. No need to send additional materials unless asked, but to double check, you might want to call that school to make sure your ED app is still saved.

Hope that helps! :)

That is exactly what I needed Anika, thank you! My counselor has already put in my transcript and school forms and I just wasn’t sure how the common app worked. Thanks again.

@ anika011, if we were to send in the Common App for the purpose of transcripts and teacher recs, do you think we would need to complete the Rice supplement too or just the Rice supplement specific to QB?

I completed signing up for the Biology E/M subject test. I want to sign up for Biology M, but I do not see an option to do so–I have even printed out my admission ticket. The ticket says Biology E/M, do I choose which test I want to take when I arrive at the testing center, or did I mistakenly sign up for a test that covers both?

MIT 12/16! How many CCers forwarded EA?

@Ariana26 ^ For the match process they only set aside a limited number of slots, they want to see the entire RD pool and it depends on how you compare when they see the whole pool.

It’s like being defferred from early decision… think of it as a “not yes, yet.”

@ JohnRevka

You pick which of the two you want to take on test date. Don’t worry about it now except to decide if you plan on taking E or M so that you can prepare for either one.

Ok, I’m really confused now…So we DO need to send in Common App to a school like Rice? Or we don’t? And if we don’t, we DO need recs? I thought they would be with our QB app?
