Official Questbridge National College Match 2010-2011

I did as well ironturtle. I’m hoping I can stop working on these college apps next Thursday =).

For all that are applying to Rice for RD through Questbridge, you do NOT need to send in the Common App; simply forward the QB app. But it is still a requirement to send in the Rice Supplement

To all QB people who were not matched: I am the mother of a QB College Prep Scholar and Fein Fellow who decided not to go through the College Match process on the advice of three admissions counselors at QB partner schools we visited this summer. They told me they COULD NOT accept ANYONE through the College Match whose expected family contribution would be more than $0. Because I thought I’d probably be asked to pay, I don’t know, maybe a couple of thousand, they recommended that my daughter apply directly to their schools, and they told me she’d have a good chance of getting in.

So that’s what we did. My daughter applied to Wellesley ED, and today she got her acceptance. So DON’T DESPAIR if you weren’t successful in the College Match. Having QB on your list of awards is a big advantage. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO ENTER THE REGULAR DECISION PROCESS!

My son was attended the QuestBridge College Prep program at Yale last summer but wasn’t accepted as a finalist. Needless to say we were very bummed and he had to reassess his top schools. Today he was accepted to UPenn and Wharton ED. Not being a finalist for QuestBridge doesn’t feel so bad now!

Would there be any advantage in submitting both the commonapp and QuestBridge app to schools? Or is it just one or the other, given that they accept the QuestBridge app in the first place?

Is anyone else confused with this whole Questbridge application forwarding? I sure as hell am.

Anyway, so if a school is taking the QB app in lieu of their own, does questbridge forward my letters of rec or do I need to resubmit them?

Also, if a school requires me to send the common app, do I have to get my recommenders to do the form on the common app?

Last one, if a school is taking the QB app in lieu of their own, but they still require a supplement, do I just go on the common app website and submit JUST the supplement?

If somebody could please clear these doubts up for me I would appreciate it so much. Thank You.

dnjsmom, a big congratulations to your son, and you! What a nice and inspiring outcome!

Can QB application forwarding only be done once?

I.e, can we forward the QB app to five colleges, and then forward the QB app to another two colleges.

I’m not sure if I want to send the QB app to some colleges. I’d prefer to use the common app. I’m trying to contact their admission offices to see if forwarding is required, but I’ve been having trouble.

@pointoforder and others:

so am I correct in concluding that Princeton does consider relevant financial information when deciding the matches, even though they said that neither of their admission decisions (Match or RD) involve financial review?

Thanks again!

In the past Pton has matched students who do have a parental contribution. I take them at their word.

@Luminouzz After submitting, this message appears: “QuestBridge will forward your application after December 15 to the following colleges.” Then you can go back to your locker, click application forwarding, edit your selections, and resubmit.

yeah JohnRevka is right. i was able to modify the list of schools that i want to forward my QB applications to.

A few questions:

How do I know I meet a college’s minimum requirements? USC Viterbi requires 4 credits of math; I have taken 3 and will complete 4 by the end of the year? Is this acceptable?

Does the major I indicate make a difference in the admission process? Using USC as an example again: I indicated that my intended majors would be computer science as a first choice and electrical engineering as a second choice. Does this mean Viterbi Engineering will be the only department considering my application? If I listed business administration as a second choice major, then would Marshall Business consider my application too?

If question 2 is yes, am I allowed to alter my supplement, which I already submitted, in order to make such a change?

For people applying to UPenn RD: Even though I listed UPenn during the Match round and sent my QB app, am I allowed to send my Commonapp as well? (I feel like my Commonapp is stronger than my QBapp)

UNOwen, that’s what I am doing. They will look at the qb app as a supplement to the common app.

Ok, so I am taking the January SAT. Will I have time to review my scores and decide if I want to send them, or will I have to send them directly before?

Technically, you are supposed to list the school as a direct recipient. This is not a ‘hard’ rule, though. In practice, you’ll be able to look at the results first.

Persian, if you don’t, keep in mind it may take several weeks for the college to receive scores, as opposed to instantaneously on the score release day.

JohnRevka, you are fine with your math requirement. It is based on what you will have completed by the end of senior year.

So far as being admitted according to major, this varies from college to college. Many schools do not take this into account, while others have you apply to a particular school within the university. You will need to look at the schools’ websites to see what they require. If you are unsure about USC after checking their website, email them and ask.

Hi,
I have always wanted to attend Stanford and I wanted ask if you can send me your stats (sats, extracurricular, and gpa). I would like to just have an idea of what i need to do in order to apply to Stanford next year. Thank you.
