*Official Regular Decision For Northwestern University Class of 2016*

Does anybody have any idea on when admitted students will receive financial aid notification?

For those that have not received an email yet -

I called NU and talked to someone in the admissions office. They said they would be resending the emails on Monday. Don’t know why we have to wait just relaying what they said.

Northwestern SHOULD be embarrassed that their computer system was unprepared for releasing decisions. They have know since January that they had record of number applicants. They have had ample time to test their system to ensure there would be no problems. There were only about 1000 more apps than last year. It shows that the school doesn’t really care about the process for applicants. They never officially announced when decisions would be released. They waited until Friday at 5 pm CST so the office is closed. It’s as if they suspected they would have problems, but hoped it could be kept quiet. If they really wanted to be transparent, they should have posted a notice on their own admissions homepage acknowledging the problem, publicly apologizing and reassuring the masses. Nice that they finally posted to CC 4 hours after the problem started. Too little, too late.

It should not take kids 6+ hours to access the decision link. This drama was unnecessary.

am·a·teur·ish/ˌaməˈtəriSH/
Adjective: Unskillful; inept

@SoJaded: I don’t think it is that serious. Yes, the server messing up caused a bit of chaos, but we all still have our sanity. You seem to be speaking from frustration and anger. How are they going to test their servers ahead of time? Get a whole bunch of people and ask them to click the link at the same time? No. I think to make assumptions that they don’t care is a bit over the top. You talk like they did it on purpose. No, It should not take kids 6+ hours to access the decision link. Their mistake. I don’t think they should be chastised for it though. I wonder if you would be satisfied if the admissions officers crawled into a corner in fetal position and cried for 3 hours for their mistake… probably not. Anyways, calm down. The mishap is over and done with.

@LoveEssence - the waiting is stressful for some people.
And yes, technology can be tested for its resilience.

Finally a public apology on the NU website:

“Admission Decision Update
We apologize for the difficulty applicants experienced in viewing decisions online. As of 8AM CST Saturday, March 24, everything should be working. Please contact us via email if you experience any difficulties. Thank you for your patience.”

ACCEPTED to Northwestern, but waitlisted to UChicago.

All,

If you have not received a decision email, please check your Spam/Junk folder. If it is not there, please email ug-admission@northwestern.edu from the email address used on your application and give us an alternate email address to which we can send your email. Usually it is a problem with a student’s internet service provider, a school’s email server blocking emails from NU or students having unsubscribed from NU emails. We will resend email messages daily only to students who have yet to receive them, starting on Monday.

@ivybound012, the same goes with me. Waitlisted at Uchicago but accepted at Northwestern. not complaining though, i’m really happy i got in to NU!! woo go wildcats! :D

Waitlisted… Northwestern why are you doing this to me?

Also wait listed at U Chicago and Wash U. St. Louis - But NU is the only one I really cared about.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Wasn’t the best applicant, but definitely one of the most unique.
General Comments: I remember as my guidance counselors would laugh when I told them the schools I was applying to. Ambition = success in life. I wasn’t afraid to be myself in my application. I talked about what I loved to do and showed some personality in humor instead of spending hours after school trying to pad my application with dozens of clubs. Congrats to everyone who got in, and I hope that my application is proof that there is more to college admissions than perfect numbers

Accepted to Medill
SAT: ~2100 (or 2300, can’t remember, i think it was 2100)
ACT: 33
GPA: crap, 3.84ish
EC: Journalism, lots of journalism. editor of 3 publications, which are all pacemaker finalists. that’s a big deal. i also interned at a paper. SOoooo, not really surprised.
also president of 2 clubs, but i doubt that made a difference

Accepted to Weinberg!!

Anybody who interviewed for HPME get into Northwestern?

Accepted to Weinberg!!!

Did you receive an admission into NU undergrad and a separate admission into Weinberg? If so, when did you receive the Weinberg acceptance?

On the acceptance letter, it tells you the school you applied/are accepted to

Oh, gotcha. I’m sorry, I mistook Weinberg and Feinberg (the medical school because I’m wondering about the HPME program).
Thank though!

Congrats to everyone who was admitted!

Rejected. As a parent who is new to all this, I wonder why schools like NU spend so much money marketing themselves when they already have too many excellent applicants. My daughter was bombarded with material from NU, we spent lots of money taking a trip there to visit and sit in on classes. Her stats compare favorably with many of those who were admitted and those who were rejected. We had no legacy, are white, and are middle class. Do those work against us? Congrats to all those who were admitted. I hope you work hard and realize how fortunate you are to have the chance to go to your dream school.

@Draco13 My D was rejected as well. “Her stats compare favorably with many of those who were admitted and those who were rejected.” Fits my D to a T. The problem is just that. Schools like NU look beyond that and it is an absolute Crap Shoot when it comes to who gets in and who doesn’t.

Yes, we took number of trips and spent well over a $1,000 on just application fees and sending scores and such to different schools. The way I see is that unless one applies we are only left second guessing ourselves with “What if”. At least this way I feel I gave my D every opportunity and with the five schools she has until now any one of them will work great for her.

I am sure your D will do just fine in one of the other schools.

Good Luck to her and Congrats to all that got into NU.
