i researched rice down to the tiniest details, started my application in may, edited my essays to death, and put soooo much time and effort into my overall package. i kept in touch with admission officers and students, and made sure i didn’t bug the office too much! :P

okay so i was upset this morning (cried like…2 hrs? haha) because of the whole finaid award letter confusion, and avoided my computer all day. a few hours ago, i was in the car with my family on the way to dinner when i opened the check page to show my mom what she thought about it (i have internet on my phone). when i signed in, it wasn’t the same page/link list/etc and i seriously almost had a heart attack.

Please don’t give up if you were deferred. Rice does accept a sizable chunk of ED students in the RD round. And, depending on the year, they take anywhere from 0-60 or so off the waitlist. So, keep up your spirits and your grades, and send Rice any meaningful updates in your activities, research or awards. (pvtejasvi- your research looks great. Maybe send a copy of it after it is published… ) Good luck to all! :)

@pvtejasvi: Did you have an interview or a visit? Yeah your SAT scores pretty much killed your chances but I think your EC’s are the factors that got you only deferred not rejected

no what killed him was that he is from Texas and not OOS… they are trying to get most OOS from the ED so they can make sure to have diversity

I think the income probably canceled out the first gen college hook and URM doesn’t really apply to asians.

I was very surprised when I saw that he didn’t get in. Other than SAT Reasoning, his resume is really strong. TASP, ECs, ranking/gpa, research paper getting published, etc. He’ll probably be in RD though.

Thanks for the moral support guys - I think I didn’t get in mainly due to the fact (I think) that the guy who just overtook me in the rankings also applied to Rice and he had a 2270 on the SAT so that prob sealed it - they aren’t going to take two people from the same school :(
