OFFICIAL Saturday, October 15 PSAT Thread

tim, i completely agree. maybe you and i read the question wrong?

But the question was why did the author choose to include the series of equations.

I thought my “relate roman and arabic numbers” was correct because he/she was showing how since IV was similar to 4-1, the other roman numberals could have been related to arabic numbers as well.

The triangle question: It was from the midpoint of one side of square to the other two points, right? (not from the middle)

The distance between B and D was not 6. There was a difference of 6 between the x-coordinates and a difference of 6 between the y-coordinates, so the area of the square is 6*6=36. The triangle is half that, so 18.

That would be 1/2 the area, because the base of the triangle would be six and the height would still be six. B and D are opposite corners, so like others said, H was not the midpoint of a diagonal between the two corners, but of one side of the square.

dream, i think your right, which means it is 1/4 of the square, which i think means the answer is 9.

but everyone else seems to disagree.

Demeter/ isn’t the set up 2x=y and 2y=z? (not the other way around)

Oh, man, that sucks. i misread it, i thought the end point was from the middle of the diagnol, not one of the sides

I thought it was predisposed because it said that even though the babies were shielded from microbes, they were still affected so hygiene was important.

darn it.
i get it now.

For sec 1 of critical reading, the first question on the long passage, did you guys say “painful experiences are less likely to exert an influence…something like that”

No. I didn’t see anything about painful/emotional experiences in the passage, so that choice didn’t make sense to me.

18 ,9,18,9,18,9,18, its driving me nuts. lord hlep me

It’s 18 because the square was 6x6 and the triangle was half that area, so .5 * 6 * 6 = 18.

I vouch for 18.

Did anyone get the question w/ the prime numbers? The one with I, II, III
I put II only.

II is right

Did anyone get predisposed for the sentence completion about the babies?

I got II as well

I said II only too. Every prime number above 2 is odd, so r1 or r3 will be odd. Since the same rule goes for p, you get I) p + r = odd + odd = even, II) p + 2r = odd + even = odd, and III) p + 3r = odd + odd = even. Again, every prime above 2 is odd, so only II is possible.

For the 9, 18 question, i think it’s how you interpreted the question
My triangle was like this
B A
h
C D

and BD was the diagnol. H is between B and C
I dunno if the diagram is right.
