Official Stanford 2014 Waitlist Discussion

anyone heard anything…not a word here.

Nothing yet here either.

Not to be a soul-crusher or anything, but that’s not necessarily true. Stanford probably expected a certain amount of people to decline the acceptance, so her friend might just be one of those people.

Anyway, good luck! You guys are already awesome to still be on the extended waitlist. If this doesn’t work out, you guys will be at amazing schools anyway. :)

Ditto anonymous93: S. is a very solid school but considerably over-hyped- if you are a strong enough applicant to be on the S. wait-list, you have likely been accepted at an equivalent or superior undergraduate institution and should really get excited about enrolling there.

Dad2, the tang of sour grapes is discernible in your posts. I’m sorry that one of your kids apparently wasn’t admitted to Stanford. I hope your kid is getting excited about enrolling wherever he or she may be going.

^ I disagree with Dad2 (1st half), but this is not the time or place for me to go on a rant about why arguments about stanford being over-hyped are not correct. and quite honestly, there are not many undergraduate institutions that you can consider “superior” if any. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. to some, stanford is the #1 institution in the world FOR THEM. to others, its not their favorite place.

but i do agree with Dad2 in that you should try to just be excited for the place you are going now

just got a call from stanford admit office, offering admission for fall 2010. he said they LITERALLY have 2 places left off of the extended waitlist. i have to let him know by tomorrow, but i’m pretty sure i’m going to stick by my choice. it was a good run, and im glad to be offered admission to my dream school, but i’m all ready to continue the path ive fallen in love with. good luck to you all next year wherever you have chosen/will choose to go.

Thanks, severely17. I hope you have a great time at Dartmouth!

I got an update from Stanford; I’ve been put on the extended-extended waitlist, though Stanford “[does] not expect to be able to make any further offers of admission for the fall of 2010.” Also, nine additional people were taken off of the waitlist.

Is anyone else still waiting at this point?

Yeah, I’m on the extended-extended list too… Meh.

My daugther is on the extended-extended too

I know someone who just got off the waitlist at another school and is taking it, thereby opening up a spot at Stanford. Good luck.

@mrscollege: not necessarily

sometimes, after a certain number of rounds, they just decide to come a spot or 2 short of their goal to protect the yield (in case the next admits also turn down the offer)

apparently, that is what happened last year-they stopped after the 4th round a couple spots short

Finally been rejected; Stanford sent an email saying their class is full. Well, it was nice while it lasted!

^I think they did 2-3 rounds this year, but since there were less spots to fill, they finished after only a few.
