The roommate essay just wants to know the quirky things about you that make you stand out from the rest of the 36 ACT 1600 SAT super duper smart original applicant crowd.

Mine was about how I’m like a sushi roll. I actually wrote it when I was extremely hungry during one of my lunch periods in the library.

Doubt that’ll help you but just be yourself

@ sarbaraj101: Thanks! Though I don’t think it would have been possible for me to reach it in such a short period of time if this thread hadn’t existed… :)

If other schools reject me because of my 2nd quarter drop in grades, I’m literally blaming Stanford. This application is a full-time job. My days have literally been like this:

Wow, my essays definitely didn’t take that long to write! I did spend a sizable amount of time over the summer planning them though… I wonder if that’s a bad sign :/

I did like the complete opposite of what any applicant is supposed to do. I’ve finished basically every single safety school’s supplement essays and whatnot and decided to save my creative juices for Stanford. It was an awful version of procrastination.

@ crmichi: Saving the best for last, huh? In my case I decided to work on the essays for my top choices first. I guess it all worked out, seeing how I’m done with the majority of my apps even though it’s not even November yet. :)

Yeah, I mean same with me, except (hopefully) I won’t need to send out any of those apps I actually worked on. In essence, I may need to only fill out three applications weeheee

Ugh I started working in June on Stanford crap, and really just finished this week. I’ve put nearly 200 hours into my app. There’s no way I can put this much time into any of the other apps…

But yeah… For the roommate essay say something about yourself that you don’t talk about anywhere else in your application. For example, I talk about my three most defining possessions and how they describe who I am. Metaphors and symbols are always good on essays like these.

Metaphors? Symbols?? My roommate essay was just an honest revelation of my hopes and expectations for how we would get along, and was based on the theme of the definition of “togetherness”. It will probably look overly simplistic next to all of yours :p

So I applied officially on Saturday. I’ve yet to receive any confirmation other than that of the common app email. Anyone else with any word? When I called them they told me that an email would come later this week but that doesn’t really give much time if any of my supplements are missing.

checks date I received the email on October 13th, and I had submitted my app on October 1st. So based on that I would say it takes about 2 weeks.
