*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Hmm, I sent in my 2nd teacher evaluation about 4 weeks ago. Does it just take longer to process because it is mail?

Me too…I’m wondering if my teacher’s rec didn’t submit for some reason

i seriously hope that our decisions come out before the 15th… i have my ap calc and my ap physics exam that day… :frowning: And if they do come out at 3:00 12/15 like the email said, I’ll only be halfway through physics! Will I be able to concentrate? absolutely not.

^ Awwww lol, that sounds like the worst time to have a physics test!

Got my email and my invitation to interview. Now I just need to freak out about whether the transition between my all-paper counselor and the Common App messed up. I kind of wish they’d told us we could submit missing stuff before the 17th, but I guess there’s no point in really worrying for a couple more days. At this point any missing stuff is probably just bureaucratic delay…

Congrats to wulfran! All you interviewees are making me jealous. Honestly, if I somehow manage to get accepted in December, I think I’ll withdraw my applications from all my other schools except for Harvard (which is tied with Stanford for my top choice).

Hey Fledgling, out of curiosity, what attracted you to Harvard? My cousin goes there and I toured and I got a totally different atmosphere from the one at Stanford.

Stanford seemed to have really modest, friendly, and outgoing people whereas Harvard seemed to have a bunch of quirky, slightly introverted people that each excelled in one area (but were equally as friendly if you got to know them well enough).

My parents seemed to be really pushing for me to apply there but it certainly wasn’t at the top of my list so I was wondering from an eager applicant’s perspective what interested you there.

@ gtlane: Aside from the fact that Harvard’s financial aid policy is arguably the best out of all my other schools’, its ability to allow me to have a joint concentration is particularly unique and fits my desire to concentrate in both linguistics and classics perfectly. Also, I certainly can’t speak for everyone here but I need to go to a school with a HUGE library with plenty of resources for any field, and the Widener Library fits that description. I just find it helpful to have a lot of resources to choose from whenever I’m having a tough time with a subject – in case a class I’m taking uses a textbook that doesn’t explain things particularly clearly, I can just go to the library and look for other books that might do a better job of explaining it. Now I realize that plenty of other universities’ libraries also have large collections, but the Widener is unique in that it has such a diverse set of books and other multimedia. The fact that I’ll be studying Latin and perhaps also ancient Greek pretty much makes this a top priority for me.

Not to mention, the Boston/Cambridge area is fabulous. There’s just so much culture and history behind it, not to mention the fact that the university’s near a major city.

…but I’ll stop here because this is a Stanford thread after all, and I do like Stanford very much. I guess I won’t withdraw all my apps in the event that I do get into Stanford in December… I think I’ll leave MIT and UPenn open as possible choices besides Harvard.

Looking at how interested you are about Harvard, I think you should have applied Harvard ED. Ah well, one more to compete with :)

^

Harvard and Princeton do not have early programs.

Well, that was stupid. My bad.
Lets guess: will you be applying to Harvard RD too?

^ I’ve already mentioned it in the thread earlier. If I get in, I might. If I don’t, surely I will. :)

Aah, I haven’t read the earlier posts. Good luck dude, may the best happen to you.

Are you having the bipolar syndrome? Even now?

Ugh, definitely failed math 2 subject test.

I loved the Math Level 2 but left ! question blank! I still might get an 800 right? Assuming the other 49 questions were right???

As for Chem… :expressionless: Not sure how that went…

Is it safe for me to send in teacher and counselor reccomendation forms by November 15? I haven’t sent mine in yet.

Also I applied REA for Stanford but I did not get an email confirming that Stanford downloaded my application. Now Im kind of freakin out because Im not sure whether I have to call Stanford andf ind out or just wait and see if threy contact me first. I sent in my app an hour before the due date (midnight PST, which is 2 AM my time). What should I do? Does Stanford send a confirmation email?

@wulfran- congrats on the nvitation to invterview! Ihope i get mine

^ The curve on math 2 is about -10 = 800. If you only skipped one question that’s still a ways to go before you have to worry.

Just had my interview at Caribou Coffee—it was pretty relaxed and went well. =)

Not quite. The curve is more like -5 = 800.

@wulfran- I am in the exact same situation! Haha my counselor chose paper copies for everything, and it is stressing me out because she is not known for her promptness and organization… But I have a question… I received the email, but not an invitation for an interview. Are they optional depending on region?
