Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

@JacobStudent you’d be surprised.

I leave for two hours for a movie and there’s like ten new pages ><

This thread has picked up a TON of momentum.

My thing with Dan Brown is that his books are extremely addicting and a fast read, but I’m not sure it really sticks with me. Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons, Da Vinci Code… they were all really good reads WHILE I was reading, but at the same time they all give the reader the same emotional feeling every time…

Has anyone read Ken Follet? Pillars of the Earth?

Or Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts?

^ LOL at txnwithadream. So many other Ivies ask that question in their supplements…GG

Did anyone here read Beloved by Toni Morrison? I thought I wasn’t going to like it because I generally hate african-american/African related books (Because I’m always the only black kid in class and it’s just uncomfortable) but I really enjoyed it.

I read the bluest eye by T. Morrison. It was good. Not the best book I’ve ever read though

@lessthan3X4 To Kill a Mockingbird + Only black kid in class = major uncomfortability while everyone stares at you everytime the n---- word is said -_-

Such serious books =.=

I think it’s funny how ‘help me with my stanford supplement’ threads are beginning to pop up on CC

I have Shantaram on my bedside table. Solid? My mom said I’d like it even though she did not.

@cw484912 Nope, no fever dreams yet. xD Ahhh.

@StanfordOneDay Definitely “love of your life.”

It might be kind of idealistic, but I do think we’ll all be at great schools next fall, whether or not it is Stanford. (:

@cw, yeah I guess it would be unwise to share it until all apps are turned in then, I didn’t think of that! I just liked that question :)

@Stanfordoneday
Stanford since there is no such thing as love.

So, has anyone called and gotten a positive response that it will be tomorrow? I really don’t want to be sorely disappointed about the release date lol, rejection is another matter…

Hahahaha well… I don’t know, I personally really dislike that questions… Was never exactly good with history (:

SO
EFFING
BORED.

Any of you guys’s friends get into Cornell/Columbia?

^ 3 friends into Columbia. I’m so happy for them, but it slightly makes me depressed myself.

This one girl from my school got into Columbia. My news feed is drowning with posts of Congratulations on her Wall. Good thing that cake she ordered yesterday didn’t go to waste. xD

@StanfordOneDay Honestly? Enjoy the time while you got it. You are very lucky that this state of agitation and angst will not be yours to experience for another 3 years. I would give anything to be an underclassman at this moment.

@dapotatoman I thought Shantaram was really good. Parts of it were maybe a bit too philosophical, but it’s also an extremely direct, honest narrative about a guy who just screwed up a lot in life.

This is terrible and I feel ridiculous, but I only JUST realized that your username is ‘the potato man’. I have NOT been paying attention lol. How embarassing:P
