Yeah, I know what you mean, thecoolguy. Some of my classes I start out rough but raise my grades higher in the end.

Newtocollege: May I ask for what school your dad is an admissions officer? That makes me feel better… I had an A- in my strongest subject because I had a missing assignment that was cleared up.

i really hope decisions are on friday, or else i would have gotten all excited for nothing

Sorry, Rush, can’t tell you. He’s a counselor now, but his past admissions experience was nowhere I’m applying.

Mmm I understand. Is it a top-tier university? If not, their procedures could be different.

Rush: see my edit/clarification above

This is a random question, but do you think that when colleges report their SAT score percentiles, they use superscoring? For example, Yale’s 75% is 2390+… that seems extremely high considering how few people actually score in that range.

I would assume so. They want to look their best.

I’d think so too. It’s called marketing.

Btw, I gave stanford a call a few days back (2nd Dec), the lady said they were making decisions at the time.

i thought it was 2370 for yale

sorry to disrupt the discussion, but did you guys ever have this kind of experience:

i gave in a written assignment for my German class and the teacher was all, “did you do this on your own?” and I said yes, i just got a friend to look over it for spelling mistakes. so this teacher flips out and tells me this is “unacceptable” but that he’s going to be generous and let it pass this time. i really don’t understand why it’s plagiarism, since i did all the work and the only thing my friend did was check that I had the noun articles right. (what’s the difference between this and checking math answers with classmates before handing in homework?) but i accept the teacher’s claim, i mean, nothing i can do about it. so that’s that, but then i hand in another assignment, and he says, “did you get help again?” I say i didn’t, and i really did not get ANY help AT ALL. but he still says “you couldn’t have learned all these vocabs so quickly. these words are too advanced” and says this assignment will not be graded and that i better be careful. i’m really angry now, but i try to stay calm and ask how much the assignment counts in my final grade. he practically yells, “WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GRADES SO MUCH?” im now just confused cause i was only asking what the assignment counted for, but i tell him because i need good grades to go to college. he just gives me a disapproving look. i leave.

this happened a few days ago, and i’ve been thinking about it for a while and am still perplexed and angry. i did all the work and i know those words cause i ****ing memorized them, what does he expect? i told my friends about this to get a second opinion, and they’re all appalled as well. this just about ruined my whole weekend. anybody else had this kind of problem with teachers? how did you deal with it?

instead of asking him about the grade, you should have said “Go ahead, quiz me on any of the vocab.”

You should talk to your principal or someone in the administration. I don’t think he can do that without proof, but teacher tenure gives them a lot of free reign to screw with students.

@JuiceboxEnjoyer i thought ofthat afterwards. at the time i was too ****ed and surprised to respond with any cheek.

@Rush10 you think so? i dont want to cause any trouble but yea i feel like he’s just screwing with me.

this guy’s not even german. i miss my teacher from last year…

Well it’s a pretty serious accusation. If you didn’t cheat, which you know you didn’t, you shouldn’t just sit there and take it. Proofreading a paper can be seen as cheating if the teacher is extremely stringent, but your second piece was completely your own. I think you should definitely bring it to the administration. Maybe talk to your counselor first and see what approach you should take, because I’m not sure how your school operates.

Just my two cents as to how I would approach your problem.

JuiceboxEnjoyer=Legendary username

Idk… Occasionally I squeeze the box too hard while I try to poke the straw in, so juice sprays all over me.

I sometimes have that problem too with juice boxes with poking the straw in. Sometimes it just refuses to work! Lol.

@Rush10 Every. damn. time.

Damn, plagiarism at my school is a straight 10 days out-of-school suspension. We have to use this thing called turnitin.com

I really want to know if Stanford contacted my GC.

If they didn’t, does it mean I’ve been rejected?

@Newtocollege, You said they may call to verify an EC activity. I do things outside of school, and my counselor doesn’t know about it. Also, he is new, this is his first-year at my school. He has only known me for about a month. So, if they call him to verify an EC and he tells them “No”, then I’ll look like a liar and they may reject me.

Damn, now I’m freaking out. Can somebody help??
