Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I doubt it, as others stated before, one is probably a borderline student, and they are looking for additional reason to either A) accept the person or B) reject them. So there is still hope.

I’ll shoot my GC an email asking if he was contacted.

Hey anyone, think their essay was beast? Send it my way if you don’t care I just want to compare it to mine, I’m not inferring mines was tho, I’m not that cocky.

There we go. I sent him an email, and hopefully he tells me the truth.

Also in my opinion I’d imagine they would check quarter grades your gpa is fairly low, just to see how well one is fairing now. Because quarter grades aren’t a reliable basis for judgement I don’t think it is fair to reference it.

they dont contact all the guidance counselors of all applicants…it was probably just a special borderline case that they wanted to know more about. no reason to freak out =)

Wow! So, I emailed my counselor and I got an auto response that he is out of office until December 12th because he is on some sort of military thing.

So, let’s say Stanford contacted him by email, how would he respond if they asked for first quarter grades? They probably got the auto-email too, then.

If I was your GC I’d tell you to calm the balls down

LOL, he has told me that before.

I strongly doubt there’s an auto e-mail. It was likely a unique case in which they requested midterm grades.

But, I will see my counselor on Monday for an unrelated issue and hope that she doesn’t bring up any contact with Stanford :p

No, I emailed my GC and asked if he had been contacted. Then I checked, and he had sent me an auto message because he is currently out-of-office until the 12th.

I’m NOT saying Stanford is sending auto-emails to an applicant’s GC counselor.

Will you let us know if your GC was or was not contacted, kimchee1212?

I’m gonna talk to my counselor tomorrow too.
But since it’s not an automatic email, I guess they only contact a few people due on a case-by-case basis. I mean, they don’t have the time to send that many emails!

and avtrox, that’s terrible. I’d talk to the admin. I know of too many teachers who “abuse their powers.” Good luck!

My counselor was also contacted by Stanford last week. She was contacted by my region-specific admissions counselor asking for my current grades. She told me that my application was being brought to “committee”.

So, so nervous! Thank god I had just gotten my AP Calc grade up to a 90%. Fortunately I had straight A’s in all 5 of my AP classes!

I understand that, of course, they will inevitably reject some of the applicants brought to the final committee. I’m not planning on it, but I really hope to get lucky!

I asked like a week ago, and my counselor said she hadn’t been contacted :frowning: I don’t want to bug her anymore.

now im scared that people who didnt get contacted have already been rejected

Me too :(

10char.

^ me too… Apparently it’s just for borderline applicants. If you’re super strong, they won’t check. If you’re super weak, they won’t either. But for a university the likes of Stanford, I highly doubt I’m a super strong applicant.

Same.

They may have asked mine, but then they may have gotten his auto-response. So there is no way for me to know. :(

Gah, I’m tempted to drop by the Counseling Office to ask mine about it, but I don’t want to bother him. ):

Geez, now I’m sooooooooooooooooooooooo stressed.
