Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

^ I didn’t read anything about the start tomorrow thing. I thought it was next week specifically for his committee meeting. I could be mistaken though.

Haha I have a friend who’s a legacy who was planning to apply just for fun, but decided not to just because of the supplement.

@tsukiyami, yes I am. Normally I’d expect it to hurt me, but with these budget woes the great state of California has been having, they need all the out-of-state tuition they can get…(then again, I’m a VERY financially needy candidate, so we’ll see how that plays out).

Re: the “ohmygod Stanford emailed my GC” discussion, I don’t know how much good it’ll do to know whether the committee contacted my GC or not. If my GC confirms that they did, I’m afraid I’ll be more nervous than relieved, because despite the fact that it confirms making it to the final round, it also could mean that I’m borderline enough to need the extra support.

When I visited Cal, they said OOS admit rates were the same as instate.

And there’s nothing we can do except sit, wait, and pray (for some of us) :)

We’re all making each other nervous. Why do I keep coming back to this thread? You guys better be right because now my mind is set on receiving a decision this Friday. Now if it doesn’t happen then, it’ll just suck.

Dear all,
I sincerely hope we can all reach that peaceful place where we aren’t freaking out anymore. Maybe Stanford was meant for us; maybe it wasn’t. Just remember this - when you’re in college on your first day, meeting your roommate, going to your first class, you won’t be thinking “This would’ve been better if I was at Stanford.” You’ll think, “I can’t believe I’m in college, and I can’t believe I’m having so much fun.”
Whatever happens happens. We’ll all turn out alright in the end(:

^ Well, some might be thinking, “This would’ve been better if I was at Stanford.” Time heals all wounds though. :)

So, will we be informed if they change the date for the release of admission decisions? Or will it just randomly arrive on Friday? Cause…I need to mentally prepare for this thing!!!

Let’s all be chill, boys and girls. At least wait until December 8th to freak out.

Better yet, let’s freak out when we get the email saying decisions are coming. Honestly, we’ll be so disappointed if they don’t come on December 9th.

Watch out! The decision comes on Wednesday :3 (jk, don’t rage)

I have a feeling we will be waiting until the 15th. I’m thinking realistically here… When some people say they’ve heard final meetings are happening this week I can’t help but to wonder if they’re just trying to stir the pot of anxious applicants… :)

@BruinGator520

Same here - Haha, just live your life!

If you receive an acceptance, that’s a bless!
If you receive a rejection/deferral, continue to movin’ on!

Don’t need to be anxious X)

On contact with GC . . . wouldn’t Stanford defer if they thought they needed more grades to decide? The desire to wait for first semester grades is one of the standard reasons. Quarter grades are a progress report at most schools and never go on record. If you have a 4.0 in the hardest academic path, more grades tell them nothing new. If you skated until senior year schedule or are counting on upward trend, they might defer to RD to see how you do first semester. If you are a recruited athlete admit dependent on adequate senior grades I could see them needing to check mid term, but most applicants are just not that special. :-)

Four Days

They could request first semester grades to see if an applicant is even worth deferring.

+1

Here’s a challenge: Everyone go 24 hours without writing anything neurotic.

Stanford prides itself on being laid-back. Let’s show there’s more to us than Stanford’s decision about us.

Guys… hi.

lol.

So, how was everyone’s weekend?

So, after school today, I borrowed my friends phone. I gave a little ring-a-ding-ding to Stanford’s Office of Undergraduate admissions. My first question was, when are decisions coming out? They told me ON or BEFORE December 15th. Then, I asked, are the decisions done? I was told they are in the committee process. Then, I asked what is the committee process. I was told where a group meets in a conference room and presents ALL applications to the committee. Then I asked when you say ALL do you mean ALL 5880 applications and I was told YES.

So, I’m assuming if your GC was asked for your first quarter grades, your application may not be strong enough to present to a committee. So, your regional counselor is looking for ammunition, for lack of a better term, to have you admitted. So, your regional counselor can show them “Look he is doing well in his senior year.”

So, yeah, they’re pretty open about the whole thing.

wasn’t the purpose of releasing our results early an attempt to “catch us off guard?”
lol we’re all already expecting the 9th :D
