Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Well at this point, we have a 33% chance it will be released tomorrow, 33% on Friday, and 33% on Saturday. Now according to the legacy letter, I give it 25% tomorrow, 50% Friday, 25% Saturday.

Frenzy round 4 now? LOLL

Guys, I’m so excited for us. We’re awesome.

ETA: Does anyone watch Revenge?

Also, @Darth, I think 35% tomorrow, 50% friday, 15% saturday…

ah man i would love to get a new start on the west coast

btw my friend (applied to georgetown) said stanford is the craziest place on CC. and I was like… well, we all have the same mind+enthusiasm+craziness. really hope to meet all of you! :D

I was at the admissions office today and heard a rumor that decisions were being released tomorrow

@Whitehouses, ahaha nope. I’m a girl. Just very tired and sad about my most recent and very long relationship. I need a change of pace and don’t want anything serious for a VERY long time.

^^ Uh is your name Bonoballa by coincidence? I decided to refrain from mentioning the whole chimpanzee issue, as we’re kind of a cross between the two (equally distant relatives from both at the very least). My concern being that we’ve been drifting towards chimpanzee behavior for most of the last few thousand years, from our bonobo-like sexual behavioral origins.

There is a fascinating theory that blames agriculture and land-ownership for this shift. Interestingly, religion also played a large role, but in conjunction with these technological changes. Which may seem obvious, but people tend to ignore that religions (especially monothesitic Judaism, Christianity, Islam) really just arose with principles to satisfy a culture and technological stage of humanity AT their conception. Sadly, terribly outdated.

You’re right. I didn’t want to rustle too many jimmies on the interwebz but maybe I shouldn’t care about that. I think there are two bits to that theory. First of all, correlation =/= causation. People who try psychedelics tend to have a certain personality type. Then there is the question of how they affect the user. It’s probably a bit of both that causes the social connections, but mostly the similar personality thing.

Yeah, I almost applied SCEA to Harvard. I think I have more of a Stanford personality type, though. I do have legacy at Stanford, too. However, competition from the Bay Area is fierce for Stanford so wkjkrtghj3tj idk. In the end, I just really don’t want to be deferred. I want a firm decision. Plus I <3 Stanford.

@Pita: wow! let’s wait and see

I’ve seen (from other friends) that athletes heard back from Stanford today… does that mean anything?

Oh geez that rumor was for wake my baaaad. One of my friends got denied from brown today…another got accepted #mixedfeelings then another girl got into duke today and she’s not even top 20 (out of 400). Like she’s not even top 4%…

@Justiniee: where did you immigrate from? ;)

“people tend to ignore that religions (especially monothesitic Judaism, Christianity, Islam) really just arose with principles to satisfy a culture and technological stage of humanity AT their conception. Sadly, terribly outdated.”

Holocene and I were just talking about this yesterday!

@crossover - haha no, that doesn’t mean anything. I’ve had some athlete friends who “heard back” as far long ago as late August, September. They’re on a totally different, random, irrelevant schedule.

it will be tomorrow i have a hunch batten down the hatches folks

@crossover, I dunno. I have a friend who was accepted (recruited swimmer) to Stanford in mid-October. So I think that has little significance for us regular joes.

Where is everyone getting the number 725 accepted instead of 750??

@nygiants - the REA FAQ page. it used to say 750, now (updated today) it says 725

It’d be awesome if it was tomorrow, but I doubt it. My schedule would be so much better if it it was tomorrow!!
