Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I am from Rhode Island and this year’s freshman class had no one from Rhode Island in it. Do you think this could be a good thing? Or a bad thing? I can’t decide if I think that they accept less from Rhode Island or if few people apply from Rhode Island.

@pita - yup top 3%

By the way guys, if Stanford was able to see this thread, they would realize what a difficult decision it is for them to make. The discussions that you have about topics such as the religion topic just shows how intelligent you all are - and how much intellectual vitality you have ;)

Did they change the video picture on the undergrad admissions page or am I crazy?

29 hours!!!

@Nikke81395: I was just thinking the same thing!

Here’s a quick question to get our hopes up: What would your day look like if you were accepted? What would you do to celebrate/tell your friends/family?

Personally I’d just be so ecstatic for the next week that I would probably go to party after party just to show off my smile. For me telling people I was accepted is pointless, since most people here don’t know the difference between the academics of the University of Tennessee or Stanford.

The best part will just be being able to concentrate of maintaining my GPA and not having to worry about other apps/scholarships. It’ll almost be like a mini graduation.

Interesting Bill Nye has come up. There’s a Stanford connection to him. Many of the episodes in the first few seasons of Bill Nye The Science Guy were written by a former Gaieties head writer. He went on to write for Frasier and other shows.

Decisions come out tomorrow (Friday) at 3pm PST.
For sure.

(In case you didn’t already know.)

Yale SCEAer popping in on the religion debate.

For the record, my religion is odd, Christian Scientist if you care, but I agree with the fact that if God created the world perfectly (which I believe he did), then the Adam and Eve story does not make sense. Therefore, I believe that it is a parable to explain why the world we see has flaws. God cannot create the world twice. In Genesis 1, he created everything perfectly. Then in Genesis 2, the world is once again “covered in a mist”. There are 2 creation stories. Therefore, 1 has to be true. If you believe the world was created perfectly, Adam and Eve is not consistent, in a literal sense.

My two cents.

Ugh, I had a dream where I got deferred. I hope it doesn’t mean anything! :(

I’m not from east Texas though, technically. But compared to El Paso I am. So… One condition confirmed

@nikke81395 they just took out the beginning from the original video.

@daniel: would love to answer but I don’t want to get my hopes up.
Also I have to say religion can’t be argued with hard facts because it is not science. It requires a leap of faith. Also I think religion/science can coexist…I don’t understand why people think if you have one you can’t have the other?

@Kurisutenx I agree.

The passages you took from the Bible all reflect who God is and the state of mankind. YES, as the Leviticus and Exodus said, we should be put to death. This is reality. You and I deserve death because of our depravity and wickedness. Whether it’s cursing at our mother or father, this is still wickedness in the eyes of a righetous Creator. We have no right to question his judgment, and if we recognized that a pure God cannot have anything to do with evil, it’s no wonder why we all deserve death. THE GOOD NEWS IS… Jesus has come and fulfilled the promise of a Savior, and we no longer live by the law of the Old Testament. If think God’s punishment is “detestable and despicable”, have you ever questioned why God would punish His perfect son–fully human and fully God to suffer in place of the wicked? Now, that is incomprehensible.

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:7-8 ESV)

The suffering that you describe is nothing compared to the suffering of Christ on the cross, and His love for you still abounds regardless of what you believe.

@pita, Not even in top 10%, but 4.0 UW. Happens when you’re at a highly competitive school with less than 100 students.

So…it’s after noon PST and no announcement. Does that mean it’ll definitely not be today?

My school doesn’t release rank. I’d guess top 1% but I’m not sure. I know at least top 9% because I got the UC ELC letter, but beyond that idk.

I doubt it would be today.

26 hours, 44 minutes!

This man has achieved almost every one of my life goals lolol. What an awesome dude.

I must have missed something, because it seems as though this thread has descended into a religious debate…

Yea… Lets change the topic from religion. WHO LIKES KITTENS

I love kittens
