Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Thanks for the correction @coffeeandtea. I wonder why Questbridge releases so early.

yeah, the bottom right theres a shuffle button.

@Adodie: I don’t know, I just know that a friend who lives in Florida got matched to Stanford and that started my full-on panic.

I’ve just figured out that Holocene is not an individual high school student, but is actually a team of crack Stanford researchers who have been assembled to address every philosophical, anthropological, political, practical, social, economic, demographic, artistic, historical, and scientific topic that might addressed on the CC Stanford applicants’ thread.

But seriously, Holocene, if you aren’t admitted tomorrow it means you either have a felony on your record that you’re not telling us about or the Stanford AdCom has made one of the worst mistakes in its history.

thanks @danieljvdm

It’s only one felony… you think it will matter that much??

Or I’m just a kid with a smartphone that likes to ramble while I’m taking the bus to school, procrastinating, etc. etc.

Best of luck, anyone…

Hello Everyone,
My daughter applied REA to Stanford, and she justifiably pretty nervous right now. Question–does anyone on here know if Stanford puts any weight on being an NCTE award recipient? She was just one of four in Oregon who received it for her writing, and the only one from her school nominated. Thanks!

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this thread, as I have adequately distracted myself up to this point… but now, I’m freaking scared.
Is anyone else a humanities student, or attended the Summer Humanities Institute? I’m a legacy, spent 3 weeks there in the inaugural session of SHI this summer, and I have an album as I write and record my own original music in CA (even though I am from KS). I’m hoping all these things together will work in my favor, but I just feel really really nervous. ugh.

Honestly, Helenstreet, I have no idea, and you shouldn’t really worry about it. The best thing you can do at this point is NOT overthink your application… what’s done is done and that decision is coming in 22 hours.

@stanfordmeow: Quick aside: How competitive is it to get into SSHI? Friend wants to go there and she’s, uh… not very competitive.

the thing is is that I know im gunna get rejected I just want the benefit of the doubt

hey there!
To be honest, I had friends there who were top in their class, while others struggled with their grades (given they were taking 4th year mandarin). But, the one thing everyone had in common was an extreme strength when it came to writing. Definitely tell your friend to apply, because it was an amazing three weeks. You work directly with a Stanford professor. Also, the admission was very competitive, I would guess around 15-20%, which for the first year is pretty close. It is rolling admissions though, which was a huge relief.
Best of luck!

Any chem E or pure chem prospective majors here? Represent! :)

So at my school, people got accepted to harvard, U Penn, and cornell… hoping for the stanford acceptance letter even more now.

Sophia: I’m thinking about majoring in chemE or symbolic systems as of now. Fun (and different) stuff

Is there gonna be like a hugely stamped “REJECTED” on the email?

Mechanical E

I admire people who are fascinated/talented in the fields of math and chemistry. I’m a philosophy/literature person.

@StanfordMeow : Funny, because I admire people who are fascinated in the literature or a field in the humanities. It’s worth noting i’m a huge math/science guy. I guess the grass always looks greener? lol

From: REJECTED@admissions.stanford.edu

Well, that’s never a good sign.

EDIT: Just to make sure I don’t cause panic, this didn’t actually happen and is a joke.

@SocalPapa how much does a felony hurt your chances? what about 2 felonies and 4 misdemeanors? hopefully my essays make up for it (my roommate essay was pretty good)
