<p>That being said…
Looks like the weeks of wait are finally drawing to a close, and, with them, the curtains of our applied anxiety. </p>

<p>Though it is inevitable that many of us will find ourselves devastatingly disappointed and disillusioned this coming Tuesday–myself very much included–it is important to remember that no college, or its decision, can either validate or negate the accomplishments you have worked to attain in your life. Those are yours, yours alone, and no person or thing can change the value of what you’ve done.
Whether you attend Stanford University or any other school, you can still go on to accomplish brilliant and amazing things. If that is your intention, the institution you attend cannot hold you back from achieving so.
After all, many of the greatest thinkers and inventors went to supposedly “no-name” schools.
Yes, it’s incredibly easy to get swept up in the excitement of decisions; but, don’t forget the real purpose and value of college education: a vessel for your own achievement, not the school’s.</p>

[<em>] Intellectual Vitality: About my experience when I first learned of my mother’s alcoholism/drug addiction while my father was currently in jail. I’d give this one a 9 or 10. Very well-written.

[<em>] Why Stanford: Cute stylistically, not sure if it had enough substance to back it up. Maybe a 6 or 7.

[<em>] Teacher Recommendation #1: English teacher… Probably a 10. She’s known me since 7th or 8th grade and adores me indescribably (despite being the most terrifying and harsh teacher in the school). Really, really loves me.
[</em>] Teacher Recommendation #2: Humanities teacher. Probably a 7 or 8. Wonderful, wonderful woman. Known me since freshman year and has seen me change a lot. Had her for speech, which I wouldn’t be surprised if she mentioned… Speech-giving is one of my greatest strengths.
[<em>] Counselor Rec: Dunno. Somewhere between 6-8. Loves me, but not sure she knows me too well in comparison. Great lady, very nice, very supportive… Payed for my app fees out of her own pocket. (My family doesn’t have much money anymore, and my dad just lost his job. Mom’s income is about $2,000/yr, but luckily dad just got another job offer.)
