Lacrosse is being added in 2028 (LA Olympics). I’m hoping my daughter makes the team Chances are very small, but it’s exciting to think about).
I think any sport played at a high level deserves our respect. If it’s not your thing, don’t watch it. I have heard plenty of gripes over the years about certain sports (Olympic or otherwise) such as figure skating, rhythmic gymnastics, Synchronized swimming, ice dance, competitive cheer, etc.
I think baseball is about as interesting as watching paint dry but I certainly respect it as a sport.
Our guys did it! Team gymnastics bronze!! Also happy for Japan, the gold medal winners.
They were so fun to watch AFTER the competition, waiting for their scores and place. So excited and inclusive and just plain happy. And watching all the men in gymnastics was really really fun. They are so strong.
In watching the daytime events, it doesn’t seem as if they are showing as many celebs in the stands as they do when they show them at night. Do they edit them in for Prime Time?
The USA vs Japan women’s basketball game is hilarious. The Japanese women and their coach are going crazy every time they do something good. And it is much less of a blow out as one would expect
Yup! The Japanese women look so tiny compared to our team! But they can land some mean 3-pointers.
No. We watched NBC Prime Time coverage yesterday and they showed Tom Cruise, Chrissy Teigan and John Legend, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Spike Lee, the actor from Law and Order whose name escapes me. Those where the ones I remember.
No that’s what I mean. In Prime time they show a lot of celebs, but during men’s gymnastics today I don’t see them showing many (saw some on Saturday like Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning). I know they’ll have some of these same events on tonight, and just wondered it they splice in some celebs as they can edit the time between the vault and the score or cut out the transition to the next event and show more of the crowd.
Maybe they are showing them and I’m just missing all the stars (I’m always doing something else when watching).
I can’t believe I didn’t watch the Men’s gymnastics team final live because I didn’t think they would do very well and they won bronze! WOW. Can’t wait to see the replays in prime time.
I don’t think I saw as many during morning coverage as during prime time coverage. More focus on the families and athletic action itself. So I think you are right about editing them in.
I have seen a ton of celebrities at gymnastics. But snoop dog is everywhere!
H and I both commented on how wonderful it was to see them so excited about winning bronze that you’d have thought they’d won gold.
Yes!!! I particularly enjoyed the transformation of the pommel horse specialist (Stephen something, Penn State) from totally focused and oblivious to his surroundings to pure joy and celebration as soon as he finished his event. It was wonderful to see how the entire team celebrated each other at that moment when they knew they’d medal.
Also big shoutout to our GA boy Brody Malone for shaking off his falls in prelims to come back for the team with amazing performances.
Here is our pommel horse specialist:
Did they mention if any of the Japanese players live in the US?
I’m in Los Angeles which has a large Asian population. There are many Japanese basketball leagues in our area. It is similar to AYSO in that a lot of Japanese kids play basketball as a youth sport.
That was simply one of the most exciting moments in the Olympics. The excitement and joy was really palpable. Glad I saw it! And I’m sure it’ll be rerun over and over.
I’ve enjoyed learning how many athletes attended college in the US, or even are US citizens and competing for another country. The gymnast (female) competing for Haiti is from Missouri and went to college at DU. A lot of gymnasts and swimmers attend US colleges.
I have zippo interest in seeing the celebs. I’m here for the athletes.
