Having a Swedish girlfriend may have helped his Swedish fluency.
And the hair on some of the women!!
I am really enjoying the Washington Post Sports Moment newsletter I posted about earlier. I’m sure it’s not too late to sign up if you haven’t already. There was a link to this story, which I’m about to read.

I was getting concerned that there wasn’t enough time left for USA to win as many medals as we (yes, I consider them my medals) did in Tokyo. In 2021, we won 112, including 39 golds. Right now, after only winning 8 medals today, we are at 94 with 27 golds. But on thurs, about 25 events to award medals, on Friday about 30 and on Sat almost 40. I think we can do it.
Weirdly, I like it when other countries win, especially the little ones that are getting their first gold ever like Saint Lucia.
Me too. I’m glad they are showing it.
I feel like there have been a lot more smaller countries in finals of things. I like it.
But what about that steeplechase! Poor Girma. That was awful. And the USA guy? Nobody in the field seemed to know who he was. What a race! 9 second PB is crazy
We just watched the speed climbing. I wish I could do that too. So crazy
I loved the speed climbing!!
Steeplechase is pure insanity! A middle distance race with obstacles - and in wet shoes!
Loved that Zambia now has an Olympic medal. A bronze in 400 m.
OMG, just watched the steeplechase final. Holy cow. Rooks looked stunned after finishing! A guy from Walla Walla WA! His second international competition, lol.
Girma is making a recovery, apparently. Such a horrible fall. Hope he is going to be OK.
Almost as expected…
Her coaches did her wrong and not appealing in the moment. She had a .10 deduction. The commentators were confused that her coaches didn’t.
I thought that her routine was fantastic.
Not gonna lie… I’m glad she is. I thought her floor exercise was cleaner. I’m not well versed in the difficulty factor but it didn’t sit right with me with that appeal. Now does this open the door for everyone to appeal?
My understanding is that her coach did appeal and the result was no change. Now they’re appealing the appeal
Is there a time limit that they have to appeal something like this?
How is judging in gymnastics? Did one person determine she was out or multiple?
From the article linked above
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said Tuesday he will boycott the closing ceremony because of the “scandalous situation.” Ciolacu promised Romania would honor Barbosu and Maneca-Voinea as Olympic medalists, “including in terms of the prizes.”
I had to look up the history of steeplechase, as it is so wacky with the water pool.
Invented by the Irish, name comes from races that went from one town’s church to another’s—steeples could be seen from a great distance.
Racers often had to jump over stone walls and over/through streams, hence the hurdles and water.
Started as a horse race that was adapted for runners.
Thank you Wikipedia!!
Watching - not sure what it’s called- the gymnastics with ribbons and batons. Pretty
Rhythmic gymnastics, I love it too!
