The media critic at USAToday skewered NBC for their opening ceremony coverage.
Agree with everything they said.
The men’s 4x100 relay! The women did great also. The swimming has lived up to the hype.

I don’t see the need for commentators that are not linked to Olympic sports in some way. Using random celebrities is just silly fluff. And I would much rather see actual footage of what is happening at the Olympics - including seeing athletes from other countries - than listen to Hoda and Savannah interview US athletes’ families or see videos of US athletes telling me that winning would mean the world to them. Just show me cool athletic competition!
Uh oh. Weather is affecting schedule, and triathlon swim in the Seine might be jeopardized. Yikes
with you here. Show short athlete interviews because that lets the world see their faces but please cut the yakking of the talking heads who have little to do with Olympic sports.
Have to say that I’m positively surprised that Katie Ledecky’s bronze in the 400 is not being dissed by the media! All articles I’ve seen so far are celebrating her achievement!
Eons ago, a commercial proclaimed, “You did not win a silver… you just lost a gold!” Ugh. The worst tag line ever. I always wanted to take whoever wrote that and throw them in the pool, on the rink, etc. and see what they would do.
This morning we headed up to La Defense for some swimming. No spoilers as they were prelims, but saw Ariarne Titmus, Lily King, Hunter Armstrong, Luke Hobson, Emma Weber and Claire Weinstein. French swimmer Leon Marchand advanced with a ton of crowd support.
Off to some gymnastics tonight.
Enjoy! Again, thanks for sharing.
Peacock for one month for $8 has been great. I am loving being able to switch between all of the tennis matches and anything else. NBC is definitely making some odd choices on what to cover live.
Inside Bercy. Multiple bag searches, many folks pulled for a closer look. But here we are! France, Canada and South Korea are the big names in this rotation.
So was there a power outage across Paris or is that all fake news?
Power has been on everywhere we’ve been today and I haven’t heard of any interruptions. We’re vibing here!
Agree that Peacock is making watching easy and varied.
I have 2 TVs on the living level… one is tuned to CNBC the other is to NBC. They show different stuff. I run around the house cleaning and dusting and stop to watch whatever looks interesting.
Mr. B has to survive with his phone and headphones.
Just stopped to watch swimming. Awesome.
Maybe I’m not the only one…Just realized the olympics are on multiple networks.
Not only Peacock/NBC but also ESPN, E! network, and USA network. And they show different sports. The gymnastics are currently on E!
Just want to thank @sabaray for sharing her experiences and pictures here. It’s like we have our own cc Olympic correspondent.
The Brazilian gymnasts are giving the US some serious competition on floor exercise.
That’s what I just told my husband! Very competitive team. Great routines and solid landings.
Allyson Felix is one of my most admired athletes. I support her by buying her Saysh shoes. They are actually very stylish and just awesome shoes!
Gotta love Bob the cap catcher! Great job! 'Bob the Cap Catcher' saves the day at the Paris Olympics swimming heat
