@disyatov12 None of us can answer that question for you. You need to talk to your admission advisor listed on MyBerkeleyApp.

Independent student here. How about financial aid packages. Any different from the other UCs you guys have been admitted to?
@disyatov12 Berkeley’s L&S requires full IGETC. If you’re getting an ok grade, personally, I would just finish the class.

Maybe I am wrong, so check first.
UPDATE: the more I’m looking, the more I might be wrong.
@lindyk8 The link you’ve posted lists an alternative: reading and composition, quantitative reasoning, and foreign language. Does this mean that if I’ve taken two semesters of English, two semesters of foreign language and the entire math sequence then I can choose to not fulfill IGETC? Aren’t all of these areas included in IGETC? Why would anyone want to finish all of IGETC if they can only do part of it instead?
Ok, I am still seeing places where it says L&S requires full IGETC, but I also see the confusing lines about what needs to be fulfilled and it implies a breadth selection as an option. There are some confusing statements out there.
But here is the L&S page. It implies full IGETC:

For total safety, I still say you’re talking one month of school left. I wouldn’t risk it. Just finish the class.
ACCEPTED! (For Spring tho)
Major: Economics
School: College of Letters and Science
GPA: 3.6 when applied and 3.8 later when updated fall 2015 courses.
Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCR, UCSB, UCD
Accepted: UCB, UCR, UCSB, UCD
Denied: UCLA
So excited. I had no hope of getting in. Congrats to all the students who got in!
I think I’m also taking a risk by remaining in the class. I’m worried I might get a C, and I have low A’s and high B’s in my other classes so my GPA could potentially go below a 3.0 this semester. I have to write more papers for Art than for English, and they’re graded harsher too. It’s so time-consuming that my grades in all my other classes are falling because of it.
I checked my major requirements on assist and it says I can choose to fulfill the L&S requirements in reading and composition, quantitative reading, and foreign language instead of IGETC. I’m still not sure what exactly those requirements are though because if they’re just a subset of IGETC, then what’s the purpose of IGETC?
@award344 I live in an apartment building on the North Side (the North side is considered better/more quiet).
I would send a message to L&S. Ask if you could submit partial IGETC while you’re at it, as an option.
Does anyone know the Haas transfer stats for this year? I have a couple of friends who got rejected with 4.0’s so I’m really curious
@smartworker
There were a couple ive been stalking who posted on this thread. GPA range was 3.8 and up, really good stats overall. Entrepreneurs, club presidents/founders, in general really humble people though. Maybe the assumption that they would get in with a 4.0 alone is what got your firends rejected.
@disyatov12 I think that the purpose of IGETC is so you can satisfy the requirements for multiple UCs with one set of courses. If you were applying to 4 UCs, it would be tedious to have to satisfy 4 sets of general ed requirements, so they allow you just to fulfill IGETC. It can also be difficult to figure out which classes will satisfy the college’s requirements, so IGETC is just kind of easier to navigate.
From what I gather, IGETC is only required if you are not completing the general ed for your college. If you are able to fulfill the L&S requirements that should be fine, although you will have to clear it with them since you originally reported that you would complete IGETC. Just make sure to verify that your courses are actually completing the requirements.
Is anybody here considering single dorming at Berkeley?
Single dorming at Berkeley is impossible, especially for a transfer unless you have a very special accommodation. They kick transfers out after a year anyway, and unless you get a free ride the dorms at Berkeley are a complete rip-off.
@Moshe1010 can you please elaborate more on this? I really wanted single dorming as well, i thought the only thing was it costed more. so if i im getting this right, my chances of even getting a single room even though the extra money is ok, i most likely wont be able to?
& if i consider finding an apartment myself, will i be able to use the money that UCB granted for my housing?
@Smarkworker - Haas admission is not just about GPA.Some facts
- Haas admission is weighted 50% GPA, 35% essays, and 15 EC’s
- Haas gives priority to US citizens applying from CCC.
- If the required courses (major prerequaites from assist.org) are not completed or planned till spring 2015, then it is automatic reason for rejection
- Haas is looking for students who embody the four defining Haas principles (look it up on Haas website)

I was bummed that I didn’t get into LA, but ecstatic when I found out that I got into Cal. Where does everyone plan on staying at? I’m deciding between the on-campus apartments as I’ll need a kitchen to prepare meals (I have a long list of food allergies, ranging from soy to corn to black pepper). Any recommendations?

Does anybody know if we can find out which admissions officer(s) ultimately gave us the green light to be accepted, or if that’s probably impossible?
@h95130f We made it !!! Congrats, really happy for you. I have no clue where I will go, Berk vs UCLA is a wonderful predicament to be in! Maybe we will see each other in Rhetoric 10!
