I have a question. Do we have an actual transfer day ? I saw Chancellor’s Welcome Reception, May 9th under Myevents. Also, what is Calso, is that an orientation or sth ?
@deepThinking25 That’s weird, and impossible. Why would you want to know that?
@humbleteen I was wondering about the format for the Haas resume part of the application. Do they give you an empty template to fill out or do you submit one in your own format?
Hi guys. I recently was just admitted to UCB. I actually need to send a letter to the school telling them that I dropped a class with a W. The class I dropped is non-major required, but it is 5 units. I still meet every other requirement, 60 units, IGETC, etc, but I’m just very anxious about how this change will affect my acceptance to the school. After looking at the FAQ, it seems that I
Let us know, in writing, about any changes to your courses or grades by mail or fax. Please send your signed letter to:

To me, this seems almost…archaic? Is there some sort of form like I should be sending my change in my courses to instead? Or is it really just a neat, handwritten letter? Does anyone have any comment on whether this will affect admission and if this is really the right way to do it? Thanks!
@MikeSauce - they give u a template you basically expand on the details provided on the UC app
Well, my daughter just SIR’d! Excited…
Congrats @lindyk8 !!!
I’m sorry I won’t be her classmate, though
@Kamnnor812 Beyond happy for you! Congratulations!!
Cal for Rhetoric, or UCSB for Communications? Someone helppppp
My daughter just sent a msg to berkeley about classes and got a return subject header:
“Your email to Quincy Jones has been received.”
If you don’t know who QJ is, I feel bad for you. :ar!
Thx @luckie1367 !
I just realized there was no official UC Berkeley group for transfer students of class 2017.
So I just made one on Facebook as “UC Berkeley Transfer Class of 2017” (for fall and spring)
It will just be easier to talk about housing and things like that.
Congrats to all the fellow Bears who got admitted!
Rejected
Major: Chemical Engineering
GPA: 3.91
TAG: Irvine
IGETC: No, missing 3 humanities/art classes
Pre reqs: Completed, plus extra physics class and AP Bio score (no ochem though, but not required by Berkeley)
EC’s: Clerical work for a non-profit, math tutoring for three semesters at my college and for HS/middle school students outside of school. Involved in some clubs and stuff in high school, as well as high school valedictorian.
Applied: UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCSC (chemistry), UCI
Accepted: UCSD, UCI (TAG), UCSC
Half Accepted: UCSB for pre-chemistry
Rejected: UCB, UCLA, UCD
ETHNICITY: White
GENDER: Female
NOTES: I got one B in a physics class during my time at CC. I finished in 2 years so I didn’t have a ton of time for super stellar EC’s (took 20 units one semester, then a full load over summer, then 2 math classes the following semester while tutoring). I thought my essays were ~8ish/10. I am a California resident and CC student, and both my parents are college graduates. I am probably going to appeal, but I am confident that it isn’t going to change anything.
Congrats to everyone who got in!
How much will it take a engineer transfer student to graduate from UCB. 2 years or 3 years. Because I have heard usually classes get cancelled and it takes 3 years to graduate after transferring.
@abcd88, great regarding transfers. May I make a suggestion? I noticed berkeley FB groups are all based on year and they have like 10 members. There is no way these groups are really functional. UCLA, on the other hand, simply has “UCLA transfer students” on FB. It’s super-vibrant with previous transfers offering advice. There’s several hundred members. Go look at it and look at the size and content. It’s a public page, not private.
The point is, I think making one that is just open to all transfers is the way to go, if you change the name, which you can do.
UPDATE: I just looked on FB. UCLA TRANSFER STUDENTS has 7,900+ members and current students give tons of advice. It’s public.
What are the best housing options for transfer students at Cal? What are you listing for your housing preferences?
@history4thewin My daughter is looking into the wada and Channing-Bowditch apartments for transfers and upperclassmen. A couple blocks from Sproul Plaza. There’s also Martinez Commons, the new swank apartment complex with single bedrooms, but it’s reserved for sophomores and regents scholars. They all have kitchens and do not come with the meal plan, although you can add one.
Clark Kerr has some transfers but does not have a kitchen, it’s a variation of residence halls. Rooms are bigger and they offer doubles and triples. Comes with a meal plan, is wayyy more pricey, and the farthest from campus, about a 15 minute walk to southside of campus, but there is a bus that stops in front. It’s right near frat row. A lot of athletes are at Clark Kerr.
There is also the Berkeley co-op housing. And then, regular houses, etc.
They have dorm tours that you can request.
Accepted
GPA: 3.75
Major GPA: 4.0
School: CCC
Major: Philosophy
Prereqs: None are articulated at my school, but I’ve taken 3/4 of the classes offered.
EC: 24 hr/wk job, mymentor through Berkeley, volunteer work, Phi Theta Kappa, “on call” job with no specific hours.
Accepted: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, SFSU, UCSC
Denied: N/A
Pending: N/A
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, SFSU, UCSC
Hopefully this helps any philosophy majors hoping to attend in Fall of 2016. Best of luck to you guys. Heck yeah Berkeley!
@lindyk8 Thank you!
Hey all,
I’m so euphoric (still) about getting accepted to Berkeley - a university I never even dreamed of as a high school student. After receiving my rejection from UCLA, I was positive I would have to attend UCSB or Mount Holyoke (good school, but not for me).
Anyway, my source of anxiety mainly came from my IGETC: at the end of this semester I will only have 59 semester units because a drama class I took isn’t transferable (bad on my part). However, I have an AP score of 4 for APUSH and a score of 4 for Psychology. I wrote that on my update and I think it helped, but I’m still nervous… I know for apush it gives 8 units which would help, but I’ve taken 2 psych classes at my CC- does that mean my ap score will not count?
I already emailed my admissions officer, just wondering if anyone has any information/experience with this. Congrats to everyone!
