@goldencub sorry for the late reply. I’ve taken 12+ each semester, and I took 12 over summer of 2014, and took 3 both winter sessions. Honestly you sound a lot more prepared than I was and as long as you keep a good gpa and do a lot of EC’s, you’ll probably be what my counsellors called “competitive” for Berkeley.
@zoeyschmoey thank you a lot, i signed up for summer classes.
hello. I was first excited when I saw a word “congratulations” but disappointed when it said admission for Spring 2016. I got into UCLA for fall 2015 but spring 2016 for berkeley… I’ve always wanted to go to UCB but I’m confused right now. Plus, I’m not international but my parents are residing out of U.S. which makes me very anxious that dorm is not guaranteed!!! Also, I’m not freshmen like some of you guys are… I’m transfer who already finished all the prerequisite classes at the community college…
Is there anybody who’s in the same situation as me?.. I don’t know whether I should SIR to UCLA or UCB

I just found an interesting link showing minimum units by college per semester, and maximum units allowed by college per semester.

Does anyone know how much time will it take a engineering transfer student to graduate from UCB. 2 years or 3 years. Because I have heard usually classes get cancelled and it takes 3 years to graduate after transferring.
@shishand80 There is a major housing problem on campus at the point that the university started to rent entire building outside campus (all on-campus housing is essentially outside campus) to convert them to “dorms”.
Single dorms are aimed toward people with very special accommodations regardless of how much money you’re willing to pay, there is 0.000000001% you’ll get it. The only money you can use towards out of campus housing is your Pell grant (about $5700/year). You’ll not get the ~14K housing benefits/year in terms of financial aid on campus housing. If you accept the on campus housing package, you’ll get housing + food pretty much for free if you received a free ride. If you go out of campus you get only $5700/year for rent + food (about third of the amount). Take in account that they kick you out in the dorms during winter break (1 month, which you pay) and they kick you overall after 1 year.
If you guys have specific questions you can tag me and I’ll try to help. I lost control over this thread lol

Major: Chemical Engineering
GPA: ~3.78
Pre-Req: Missing Bio and some Engineering classes not offered at my CC
IGETC: No
EC: MESA, but pretty much nothing
Applied: UCSB, UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCD
Accepted: UCSB, UCD, UCI
Rejected: UCB
Waitlisted: UCLA
Congrats to everyone who got accepted, I didn’t think I would get in since I was missing some pre-reqs and I wasn’t basing my classes around Berkeley requirements.
@Moshe1010 are you 100% sure about not being able to use any money other than the pell grant towards housing outside of campus? how much would i lose from my aids overall? my aid says 14k is for housing, so i would lose 14k? because i heard others say somewhere between 4-6k is the amount you lose by doing off campus or campus apartmenrs
@Nediac Yeah I actually have a bunch of major-related EC’s (internship sort of thing with my grandfather who’s a professor of philosophy and writing papers for him + talking about things, philosophy club, chess club, and I also work at a restaurant but that’s unrelated to the major haha) and am taking 13-14 units per semester. I should be well off, but I’m still going to be terrified a year from now to see the results.
@goldencub don’t worry. You’re way ahead of most applicants. I only began to prepare the August before apps. If you have any questions in the next year feel free to send me a message as well. If it makes you feel any better, I was so terrified that I was going to wait until after my tests this week to check. However a phone call from Berkeley yesterday kinda ruined the surprise haha
@goldencub yeah, it’s a pretty anxiety inducing experience haha. But just do whatever you can.
Also, for anyone who has done their SIR, are you getting the credit card error? My page says their system is having issues so my payment hasn’t been processed. Want to SIR so bad haha.
@shishand80 once you get 14K housing offer you don’t get Pell grant, so if you Pell grant is 5700, do 14,000-5700 = your lose

@Manunited0901 You have 4 semesters to graduate, and I’ve never heared about classes that you need towards your major getting cancelled.
What would happen if I apply for single dorming and get rejected? Would there be a fall back option (double or triple dorm)?
@mommamarmalade There are plenty of apartments for students nearby (check craigslist under rooms shared). Worst case scenario, you rent somewhere somewhat far from campus and have to get a bike or take the bus.
holy shit I’m a finalist for the kruschnitt scholarship. game changing, if I win it makes berkeley competitive with some of the privates I applied to and definitely puts it over UCLA
Good luck @universalsnip!
@UniversalSnip No sorry your acceptance has been rescinded for dissing Berkeley earlier.
