Official UC Irvine Fall 2017 Transfer Applicant Thread

Rejected.

Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.89
All prerequisites completed, and then some.
IGETC satisfied.
Did an REU and an internship.
Essays couldn’t have been THAT bad. I reviewed and edited them 6 months in advance.

What the hell, man. I’ve been rejected at every UC except Riverside.

@Sarcoc did you tag?

@Sarcoc

That is tough brother. You didn’t tag as well?

@justinmega1
@YourSenpai

Yup, no TAG.

@Sarcoc
Same here, all rejected except UCR. Still waiting on UCB, but not holding breath.

@Sarcoc Unbelievable. I’ve been rejected at every UC as well. 3.5 GPA, Computer Science with IGETC satisfied and I’m doing a year-round internship at a prestigious academic research lab. I paid an education firm to review and edit my essays too. I doubt they even reviewed our applications.

you are kidding ?
3.9 GPA got rejected from every UC?
I don’t believe it, or have you done anything that would lessen your chance

@justinmega1
All prereqs done and took honors courses when available.

gg no re wp

I guess fullerton doesnt sound too bad, close to where I live too

@TransferCS

I have a 2 year work-gap, I guess. I applied to UCR, UCSB, UCI, Davis, and LA. This marks my 4th rejection.

It’s ridiculous too when you look at the released data of UC transfer admits that they release for every major. EE’s average GPA range was 3.3-3.56, so I legitimately thought I had a decent chance. Those 100K+ applicants must have really screwed things up, this year.

Rejected at 3pm today. I tagged too

Major: Biological Sciences with TAG
GPA: 3.55

Missing 2nd semester of O chem, and physics

I thought I wrote my essays well, I don’t have any outstanding EC’s though.

Really bummed out right now, I applied to UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, and UCI and got rejected from all of them. Don’t really want to go to a CSU, and I was hoping for UCI to come through. Looks like I’ll be going into my 5th year at a CC, time to study harder and get my GPA up.

Keep pushing guys.

@Sarcoc
It must be crazy competitive with the increase in applicants this year. UCR is a good school, and you can always get into a more prestigious grad program afterwards if so desired. That’s my plan.

@zotfembot

I used to be in a similar boat, but now I just don’t know. Not really into that college prestigious crap anymore. It’s more of just a “getting a degree for a job” type of deal for me as I’m getting older. CSUs don’t seem to bad though, I’m sure plenty got job after attending there

I did 5 years at a CCC (just about 1 class short of 3 AAs later…) and it really sucks to feel like you’re being left behind. I know that struggle of feeling like I lagged behind my classmates and younger peers who went off to school before I could. Somehow, I think you will get there. It isnt even a “maybe” to me.

I’m rooting for you, @zotfembot & all the others still trying to figure out what to do now. I was there last year and reapplied this year (finally successful). You guys can do this.

My CS professor attended csula, and when he got his first job, he told us he was working with people from Cal tech, Stanford, UCLA, Berkeley. He said the knowledge he acquired from csu was no different than the prestigious schools. I think going to a prestigious school is okay, but going for only that reason isn’t. Just like what @YourSenpai said, you’re getting a job getting that degree. Most companies nowadays don’t care where you got the degree from, it’s about how hard you try and how much you stand out.

I’m going to attend my 5th year at a CC as well, and turning 22 this summer. At this point I’ll just worry about getting out rather than where I’m getting in

@Sarcoc I took over 2 yrs off from school as well and I was from out of state too…I only got rejected from UCLA and UCI. I think maybe it’s just bad luck, they are so ridiculous cuz I heard they even accepted some students with low GPA and didn’t even finish the required classes. Some of them are just really lucky I guess.

@zotfembot @CompEngrUCI You guys tagged?? It’s called transfer admission guarantee for a reason - either something was unfulfilled or they reaaaallly made a mistake? Either way you guys should look over the tag for your stated major, just to double check.If irvine did make a mistake on their end, thats crazy. If all was fulfilled, you should have been offered admission.

@CompEngrUCI There was a seperate application for tag that had an earlier deadline (i believe it wad the last day of September) than the deadline for the UC application.
UCI made a mistake in saying to mark the “UC Irvine tag” box on the UC application when there was actually no such box to check off/no place to indicate this. When they realized this, they sent an email (in mid-November) regarding this-saying there was actually no box to check off on the UC application.
So just by submitting the tag application for irvine, submitting the uc application (and of course selecting uci as a campus you were applying to), then being on track to fulfill all tag requirements you should have been admitted. Right?

@Zygole I’m so sorry :[ what was your GPA? Not sure how I got waitlisted I have IGETC done but I guess I’m missing 2 pre-reqs so I feel like I’m going to get rejected

@kissu2 its all good! stuff happens, I have a 3.3 so unfortunately just under the requirement to tag UCI. As much as I’d want to stay another year I need to transfer and finish my degree. Gonna still appeal and see what happens though.
