Official UCI Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

I’m having difficulty finding the conditions that are needed in order to maintain your acceptance (if accepted). Some
of my classmates told me that as long as you maintain a 3.0 (with no D’s or F’s) for your last semester, you should be fine and wouldn’t have to worry about getting your acceptance rescinded. But, I just wanted your opinions also!
Anyone know if they can second this?

Not that I’m planing on getting straight C’s, but just curious!

@by3000 When you get accepted (assuming you do) you also receive a letter that outlines all of the conditions. I know this because I was accepted last year.

@BoxingTiger oh wow, congrats! Do you attend UCI now?
@nirvanarageatm Surprised it’s 2.0, but thank you!

@by3000 Thank you. I didn’t end up transferring last year. After taking into account housing, classes that I needed to get my degree, and other family responsibilities, I decided to stay a third year. I tagged UCI this year so maybe I will end up going there.

Here are my stats, please tell me what you think my chances are for UCI Psychology & Social Behavior…

I was involved in 2 honors clubs, one for my major of psychology and volunteer work with homeless populations.
I wrote my personal statements and had them reviewed by multiple counselors and they all gave me the thumbs up
I am a reentry student, with a dodgy CC history from the early to mid 2000s as a result of personal issues.
I’ve been an all A student since returning to school, totaling 58 units. The remaining units are from the mid 2000s and are like an over all 2.7ish GPA, and that’s why my GPA isn’t a 4.0

Here is my GPA over the course of the process

At time of application 3.12
At time of update 3.34
Projected Graduation 3.47

I know that getting As at a CC doesn’t mean I’m some rockstar student, but I hope it counts for something, it was pretty hard work at least at times for me, and I put a lot of effort into it.

The only issue is that I have a lot of transferable units having earned a certificate of achievement in the past. I have 78 units that will be completed by my graduation. I know the unit cap is 70, but I also know that the total units you took might influence if they consider you a Junior or Senior, and not all UCs will admit students in that situation.

Please let me know what you think, I’m wondering when we will start hearing back from the UCs…

Best of luck to all you fellow applicants !!!

@BackNSchool83 your number of units isn’t an issue (contrary to semi-popular belief) because they are all from a community college, NOT a four-year institution and therefore, by definition, all lower-division units. You cannot possibly be considered senior status. In fact, you could have taken 150 units and you’d be eligible to transfer, they will only take the max allowed to transfer over and disregard the rest (or else use the fact that you took them to clear pre-requisites if necessary).

Your GPA is a bit below average: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-application-data.pdf but I don’t think it looks bad at all considering the obvious gap in schooling and your marked increase to being a 4.0 student in recent years. You even have honors clubs that you participated in while doing so!

You look like a very attractive candidate for UCI, I hope you applied to even more pestigious universities as well because I’d say you have a chance at a good deal of them. I have a friend in a similar situation to yours who was accepted to Cal/UCLA/USC in 2014. Not to mention this is a good year to be applying in general.

Regarding your curiosity as to when admission decisions will be released: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/campus-notification-schedule-2016.pdf?utm_source=Counselors+and+Advisers+Bulletin&utm_campaign=14f6f3ab41-CAB_February_20152_4_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_3bf066f8f5-14f6f3ab41-126722509

Hey ananguiano, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I appreciate you clearing up the unit issue, that’s good to know. My GPA was as high as I could get it, so hopefully it will work out. Not sure if you were a CC transfer, but if so do you have any thoughts as to the change of pace ? As for other schools, I’m in a situation where I really have to stay local so UCI is perfect for me in that regard, but graduate school is another story … provided I can pull off a good GPA once I transfer, still though thanks for the encouragement. Mid April huh lol, well that’s not cutting it close or anything. Those are useful links, thanks !

@BackNSchool83 I’m actually transferring this Fall from a CC! :slight_smile: But I’ve heard the change of pace can be quite an adjustment for us, I know I’m going to have trouble adjusting from semester to quarter schedule at first but I think I’ll enjoy the latter more in the end.

I see about your situation, well it’s a good thing that UCI is local to you then, it’s a great school, I just visited day before yesterday. I’m having trouble deciding on where to go also, location-wise; I got married last August and a big factor on where I go is going to be how much aid I get offered, the length of those family housing waitlists/where we’ll live in the meanwhile, etc.

Is there some kind of transfer admission contract for UCSD outlining the requirements to keep your acceptance?

Is anyone having trouble logging into their MyAdmission account? I have tried a few times to log in and it just sends me back to the main log in page.

@bonjouruc2016 Nope, just logged in. It’s fine for me.

@dannybui9 thanks, I’ll give it another try.

Anyone know when UCI sends out TAG decisions? My friend didn’t TAG but she just got her admission decision. (She’s honors-to-honors though).

@Remmigirl Did she get regents? You should tell her to check if she doesn’t know. Aparently it shows up on the right side of the screen with the bannars.

@sugarbabies3 she did get regents, does that make a difference? she also just got her admission decision to UCSD and i checked mine but nothing. i’m getting a little stressed out…

Regents often receive their decision before everyone else

I can’t log into my portal? It may just be because this library has terrible wifi, though. I dunno.

Wait… so you have to be in the Honors program in order to get Regents?

@lopapo No.
