I was wondering what my chances are for transfer. I currently attend USC as a business admin major. I’m originally from a community college. I applied to UCI for fall 2016. (There is a whole long story as to why I want to transfer and I don’t really want to get too much into it- I just want to know my chances of getting in) I understand people from 4 year colleges get the very last of last priority and are on space available basis but I was hoping if someone on this forum could give me more insight on my situation. Any help would be wonderful!
Major applied for: educational sciences
GPA: 4.0 from CC
roughly around 3.5 here at USC
IGETC: did not do
but completed all of the 7 transferrable college courses
Units: 30 for sure from CC
30 at USC that I do not know will transfer over
8 AP credit
so total 68 hopefully?
EC: worked part time since 12th grade
volunteer and community service for greater LA, Project 32, Opportunity international, youth action team
delegate for University Student Government at USC
participated in student council in high school
personal statements: pretty decent
Maybe regents were already notified. I noticed some people (or maybe it was one person. Too lazy to check) saying they weren’t CHP but still got regents earlier in the thread. I kind of doubt that they’ll release regents after today, seeing how close we’ll be to regular decisions (we can say with near certainty that will be two weeks from today). The fact that not many people posted about receiving regents in last year’s thread further bolsters such a position (I see only two non-CHP regents from last year).
Bummer. Future applicants, if you’re hoping for regents, I would highly recommend your community college’s honors program. You can become TAP certified for UCLA and then do honors-to-honors for UCI. They probably (logically) offer regents to high-achieving honors students first and foremost, and maybe throw some to those who aren’t honors students after the honors students who are worthy have been taken care of.
Of course, take note that I am merely speculating. I believe the reasoning behind my speculating is sound, though.
Two more weeks, guys. I’m done hoping for anything earlier!
Not bad at all. My perception of time has been distorted in my favor from work and 18 units of school. I thought it’d make time go slower, but it’s actually going faster :-bd
Maybe it has something to do with me sleeping from 11am-5pm on weekends (thank you 2am baking shifts @-))
It does help. I worked full-time as a baker and did the 2 am baking shift thing for most of college time but it seriously broke me when I was working at the bakery, commuting an hour to and from school, going to school and taking 3 classes back to back, and only getting 4 hours of sleep, and then suddenly working at a suicide hotline on my one day off from the bakery. I don’t know how people can do it. This past year I quit working and have been concentrating finishing out school and I think it’s actually making time go SUPER SLOW now.
So, hats off to you. :D/
Hey so I applied to a few CSUs as well and the deadline to accept seems to be June 1. I’m just a little concerned UCI won’t get notifications out to me in time since plenty of people didn’t find out till the 28th, last year and if you want to see the complete list of reported stats for Fall 2015 Transfers go to page 24 of this thread. If I accept admission and pay the fee that is the end of it right ? Or is there still one more step to actually making it final for the CSUs ?
@heyitspauline That’s great. I transferred from an out-of-state University to CC and then apply for UCI. I really hope both of us can get in and we can meet on campus! I think I hadn’t seen some else major in education in this thread.
@BackNSchool83 well if the deadline is June 1 for CSUs, then you’ll have enough time since all UC transfer admission decisions are released by April 30th. So you’ll have a month to decide who to SIR to.
UC GPA: 3.45
Major: Psychology
TAG: No
IGETC: Completed
Pre-Req : Just missing Sociology 101 & Geology 100
EC: Worked at DLR for about 5 months now, President of the Psychology Club, & was a volunteer at MSH.
Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCI (Of course), UCR, CSULA, CSUF
Accepted: UCSB, UCR, CSULA, CSUF
@Veraaa thats awesome! can you tell me your stats so we can compare? and yes same hopefully we both get in! update me if you hear anything. I havent found anyone else majoring in the same thing either.
@heyitspauline
My stats:
UC GPA: 3.75
Major: Educational Science
TAG: Yes
IGETC: Completed
Pre-Req : Completed
EC: I worked as a tutor in Ohio high school and elementary school for a semester. I also volunteered working in a elementary school in HongKong during summer. Art club president in high school.
Applied: UCLA, UCI , UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, Purdue
Accepted: UCSB
Actually I am a little nervous because I read the thread from last year and some people with tag got rejected due to lack of credit hours. Since I was enrolled in an out-of-stated university for a semester, I hope they count the credit:( I am really interested in education so UCI is my dream school.
@BackNSchool83 The deadline to accept an offer of admission is May 1 for all the CSUs I applied to. I did not expect to get accepted to any UC (although I eventually did) so I moved forward with the checklists for SJSU, SDSU, and CSULB. Each school required transcripts and something equivalent to a SIR. SJSU wanted $70, SDSU wanted $400, and I believe CSULB wanted $100. SJSU threw in a mandatory orientation as well. I think it might be wise to get the ball rolling with a safety school just to be um, safe. They all took several weeks to upload my transcripts.
@Veraaa I completely feel you haha. I wonder if since educational sciences seems like not a super popular major at UCI if that would have an affect on our admissions…
@heyitspauline Yes I hope it’s easier to get in since the major is not so popular, but we need to wait to find out. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of info about this major though. Hope we will get the news soon!!
