Official UCI Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Good luck this week everyone! :)… fingers crossed.

Based on the stats I found for last year here on CC, It’s true that quite a few applicants without tag got in, I only noted a few actual rejections with TAG and no wait list with TAG. They started admitting lower GPA 3.0-3.5 towards the end of the month on the 28th. Are you basing your claim in part on the Freshman decisions or any other sources ? I don’t doubt you, just want to see where you are getting info so we can link it. If anyone wants to see the complete list of stats from last term go to page 24 of this thread I believe and it should be there.

@BackNSchool83 I applied for fall 2015 and was accepted.

@BackNSchool83 i was admitted exactly on April 29. I’m basing my info off the fall 2015 uci transfer thread and freshman thread.

Hi all,
I don’t know how true this is but I was at a “faculty of the year committee” meeting of Friday and the coordinator for the transfer center at my cc was there. I was the only student (representative) in the room and they asked me my major… I told them I’ve been waiting to here from UCI. The coordinator of our transfer center told me he just had a conversation with an inside source at UCI who said UCI prides themselves on their ratio of acceptance to applicants. Plus, the UCI chancellor made a promise to admit more transfer students this year. He told me that he thinks they didn’t get as many applications they were hoping for so they extended the application deadline. The coordinator also told me that he fears that they won’t let us know until May or even as late June 1st.

After the Friday meeting I went on this website around 3:30pm and saw all of these acceptances so I just figured they were letting most of us know by this weekend.

I don’t know how much truth to what the coordinator speculated but that’s what he told me.

I have to admit, I’m a bit annoyed they extended the application deadline. I don’t see why they needed to when the UCI rep told me last week that UCI received over 20000 applications. At the very least, they should provide some preference to those that submitted their application by November 30th, the original deadline. I think if I recall correctly, UCI and the other UCs extended the app deadline for transfers until well in January 2016.

I think they did it to keep their acceptance rate as it was before or lower it further. Since they were told to offer more acceptances, the only way to do that without causing their acceptance rate to rise was to allow more applicants to apply. Extending the deadline has done just that.

@Eterion my thoughts too, i feel we should be given priority over them, and if they were going to extend they should have gave us a notice, so we could have had the extra time to work on our statements.

@yourHIGHne55 but most that were accepted are TAG students, i hope that other students that did not TAG get to hear back too :frowning:

I just hope what I heard was wrong. Honestly, our meeting was at 2:30pm on Friday and I literally left the meeting about to tell you all what I was told but I saw all of these acceptances so I figured he was wrong. IMO, I think they wanted the top transfer students to know so they could come to that shindig UCI had yesterday.

I agree, the people who turned their applications in on time, we couldn’t even go back in and edit after they opened it. I was annoyed.

I’m going to withhold my comments about them being a “flag-hating” campus until after I find out my admission decision.

Until then… fingers crossed and zot! zot! =O

they have another event too called discover UCI after sending out all acceptances, that was last year, don’t know about this year.

@rashomon369 i feel their acceptance rate dropped :frowning:

If it makes anyone feel better I am sure they didnt have a ton more people apply during the extended deadline. Most people who were prepared and ready to transfer did it by the original deadline.

The Cali colleges, mostly the UC campuses have become more interested in admitting students from out of state than in state for the cash…these colleges were put in place for the Cali students…not so much anymore…

The problem for my son is that his major is Computer Game design and there are only like 3 Universities here in Cali that have that Major…UCSC, USC and UCI…he did not apply to any other school at this time…he will next year if he does not get admitted this time around. The PR for each school for that Major is really different…and USC is really different…he only has a GPA of 3.2 before his 4 classes he is taking right now…he will get As and Bs in those classes…he can fix a D grade he has that he got over a year ago and continue to move forward…

He does have ADHD so hope they will take that into consideration with his GPA…he was at UC Merced a few years back… and they gave him a academic scholarship he also made HS State and school honors with a 4.0 GPA…got accepted to other schools but Merced offered a free ride so he took it. In HS he never needed his medication so he went off to College thinking he was good to go without it…he got all Fs…he went for help but they kept telling him to wait till he got home at Christmas to get on medication that that was better than therm helping him…UGH…

Meanwhile his grades got worse…Eventually he just gave up…was told by the chancellor that he could come back after taking 2 classes at CC and adjusted his meds…he chose to not go back and just save $$$ at CC…his first choice is UCI for many reasons, mostly because he HATES THE COLD and UCSC is up North…lol…he is in no rush but would like to get on with his career…luckily you are all young so you have plenty of time to do the same if this time does not pan out  Im the one with all the anxiety…lol

So did anyone else just apply to UCI?

i applied to UCI and UCLA

applied to uci also.

Admitted for Psychology. 3.97 GPA, no TAG. Got the email on 4/15 at 3:01 am. Does anyone think that possibly the people who were accepted already without TAG are Regent Scholarship potentials? Or does anyone have any viable information on the Regents?

hope we get to hear back tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed.

@iLoveWaiting Regents hear back way earlier than us.
