Honors Completion at CC: Yes
IGETC: will be complete by end of spring

Hi guys, I’m here for a friend asking a question since he does’t have a college confidential account.
But, he noticed that UCI requires all students (I’m assuming based off of assist.org), that you need to complete either one semester of calc + one semester of stats or a year of stats, etc.
He only completed the stats portion and not the calc part, but does anyone know how strict UCI is with this requirement?
He’s a political science major if that’s any help!
Thanks
@by3000 for most social sciences the statistics portion is most important. Calculus isn’t really one of the more important requirements. That’s just based off my own experiences
Major: Psychology (with Psychology and Social Behavior as an alternate)
UC Transferable GPA: 3.3
Overall GPA: 3.6
IGETC: Done, but the FL requirement is being done online at another school, so that’s making me nervous.
Tag: No. I tagged UCSC instead.
Prereqs: All completed except for calculus for psych and criminology for social behavior.
ECs: President of Phi Theta Kappa, President of Alpha Gamma Sigma, intern at a psych company called 7 Cups of Tea, Student Ambassador at my college, and previous English tutor.
Hi everyone! I applied to UCI for fall 2016. I was just curious if I would be able to switch majors if I were to get accepted? I would only switch from psb to regular psychology. I fulfilled both requirements to transfer for either major. I also tagged UCI for their psb program so I’m not sure if that would look weird… Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
@stahpit not too sure how that would work. Usually they allow only major switches in the same school. PSB is school of social ecology and psychology is the college of Social sciences. You may want to speak to someone who is more informed, possibly a transfer counselor from either of those schools.
I got an email today asking for me to explain some gaps in my education and also requesting “scans of unofficial transcripts” from all schools attended. If I do not get this to them in 5 days my application may be cancelled. Has anyone else gotten this ? Has anyone else been concerned that they sent this a day before a 4 day weekend ? I happen to have transcripts I can scan and send from other schools but not the most current from my CC, it doesn’t have this last Fall’s grades. I requested an electronic transcript PDF but that may or may not arrive tomorrow. I called UCI they told me to just message my admissions counselor and that they had gotten a few calls about that. I really don’t think it’s that cool to suddenly drop a 5 day window on people like that, let alone with the 4 days ahead that are non business days, and yeah MAYBE they start counting those 5 days next week, but they don’t specify it’s a vague email and my admission depends on how I interpret it. So about interpretation … an unofficial transcript, well would me sending a print of my academic history that will also show the school website database I’m on count ? So ok, does that mean that if I scan a copy of an official transcript that I HAVE and send it, it is in compliance and therefore unofficial, or must I make student accounts with all my previous schools to try and get an academic history to print out. I assume it’s safe to just send the academic history from my school, but again this email is way way to vague and it’s got too much riding on it to be like that. Here is exactly what is says…
Dear BackNSchool83,
We have received your University of California Undergraduate Application for Admission and Scholarships. Thank you for your interest in our campus.
We are in the process of reviewing your application. Before we can complete our review and reach an admission decision, we need the following information from you:
Please attach an unofficial scanned copy of your transcript from all institutions you attended. Additionally, please explain in detail your activities during the following gaps in education:
(time period would be here but is redacted)
If you attended school(s) during these gaps in education, please also attach official transcripts for those institutions.
We must receive this information within five days of this message date, or processing of your application may be canceled.
To respond to this message please use our online response form by clicking the following link: https://ugappinfo.ucop.edu/messageResponse/index.
DO NOT reply to this email as it will not be delivered.
@BackNSchool83 I had to do the same thing last year when I applied to UCI to prove my academic renewals. I personally just screen shot my academic history/unofficial transcript and they accepted it. So I would say it’s safe to assume you just go onto each community college portal you previously went to and just print and scan your academic history. Some schools call it academic history like Irvine valley college. Some call it unofficial transcript like orange coast. Either or will suffice. 5 business days is what they mean also. So i don’t think you count the weekend or any holiday. But get it in asap. Don’t quote me on the 5 day thing because it would be a tagedy to lose your application. So get it in quickly.
I’m not able to set up portals on all of them but I have official transcripts I can scan instead. When I try to set up portals and in one case this is a school from 15 years ago, it won’t let me unless I apply.I have an academic history I can send from my current school. You think they care if the other transcripts are officials that I scan
I had the same thing happen, for my academic renewal. I know i’m probably totally paranoid, but my unofficial transcript from the school I got AR from still shows the F’s, but has a “Code” next to the F that indicates that I was granted AR. But since it was just the unofficial transcript that I had to screenshot and not the actual official one (on the official one, you flip over the transcript and it has a whole breakdown of the what the codes mean). So I had to scan a copy of the back of my OT and include it to show them what the codes mean and to prove that they’re not F’s and that I got AR. I hope it was sufficient.
To both of you @boxandwhiskers and @BackNSchool83 a scanned copy of the original or official transcript is just fine. As long as it shows what you indicated on the application. Because unless the transcript is sealed in an envelope and opened by UCI it is no longer official. As far as AR they will see on the transcript that your Gpa does not reflect the original grades that are substandard. I too had to send mine in last year as I mentioned(30 units of Ds and Fs). As long as the transcript SHOWS that little symbol and code and no quality points then you’re good to go friend. But if the original doesn’t show you had the academic renewal then don’t send it cuz then you look like you lied and will get it cancelled
@by3000
Here’s what assist says for political science:
SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES MATH REQUIREMENT: All students are required to take
either: 1) One semester of calculus and one semester of statistics, or 2) Two
quarters of calculus and one of statistics, or 3) One year of statistics.
Looks like your friend has to take a year of statistics or some calculus.
@BackNSchool83@Countchocula25@boxandwhiskers Do you think everyone who has been granted AR is going to get one of those e-mails? I have AR from classes that I took in 2007, so now I’m kind of anticipating receiving that e-mail.
@aepaige probably not. I’m thinking maybe they are just one of those audit type emails that go to a small population of applicants just to prove what they are saying is in fact correct.
@aepaige I don’t know, you might. It’s not a bad thing and it doesn’t really mean anything. They just want to verify that you did get something as critical as AR or else they’ll have to recalculate your GPA if they find a discrepancy. My TAG counselor said sometimes they send out requests for proof that the student actually received AR and sometimes people lie about it and say they did get granted AR when they really didn’t, and then UC has to take action.
