i plan on sending in my appeal tomorrow morning… not too late right? i was waiting on a rec letter in the mail I just received. The UCLA site says it must be “postmarked by May 15” so sending it in tomorrow still is okay?

yeah i am doing the same thing for something else…

POSTMARKED means that they want it stamped by the deadline…as long as its postmarked by May 15 you are fine.

just remember that the post office closes at 2:00 p.m. on Sat…

My local one closes at 12:30. BE AWARE GUYS.

How long did you guys make your appeal letter? was it something as in depth as your personal statements? I’m just wondering. Mine is only a page long(times new roman font 12)

^
mine was a page in 10pt font, single spaced. It was in depth in terms of the points I was arguing.

I also waited till today because there were many events yesterday for my cc. We had breakfast with the board of trustees, a scholarship luncheon, and an awards banquet where there were speeches and such. I wanted the dean writing my letter of rec to write about my performance today in the letter. I also had a prequisite grade changed from a B to and A earlier in this semester, but after the application update. Do you guys think these will cumulatively get me there. I know were all aware of the 3% rate but does anyone know what that is 3% of? That could make a huge difference…

Oh, one more thing. To whom are you addressing your letters to? Admissions officer? Appeals committee?

UCLAlove,
Well my reason was that they used to accept HS chemistry in lieu of college chemistry and the requirements just recently changed, after I had thought I had already completed my requirements. So I guess that’s not a good enough reason.

^ seriously?? im so sorry, that sucks! i think they are just searching for reasons to deny people now
good luck with everything!

I turned in my appeal package to the office of admissions on Thursday afternoon and still no change on my decision site…should i be worried?

I got REJECTED for the 4th time homies!

Tragic. But life’s too short to dwell on the sucky stuff. Some dreams don’t come true, but I’m a lucky guy in other respects. Good luck to you guys forreal!

^
sorry kid.

where are you going in the fall?

I sent in mine Thursday afternoon. My rejection was because of my gpa which I got all f and one d in my first semester at oos university. I just got granted for retroactive withdraw for the whole semester at ops that means on transcript is all going to be w due to extradinary conditions. My gpa will jump from 2.8 to 3.7 hopefully it will be good enough

does anyone know how to check the status of the appeal?

UC Irvine

Screw UCLA.
They said that they didn’t even look at my application because I didn’t meet more than 2 prerequisites…just because I decided to switch to my current major a little late. But the thing is, I’m currently taking all these classes to meet the prereqs any way so yeah.
I got into USC and UCSD, so I’m assuming if they looked at my app, maybe I would’ve gotten into LA as well.

But I just hate how they didn’t even reply to my e-mail after I asked them politely if I should appeal my case because I feel like it was really unfair that my application didn’t even get a proper review on it.

But good luck to those who are appealing!

omg they told you that they didnt even look at your application!? what is the major you applied as?

I applied as chemical engineering from UCI, and at the time I had a GPA of 3.78 so I thought I had a pretty solid shot.

This is from the actual e-mail I received:

"Thank you for your inquiry. Chemical Engineering was very competitive
this year. Your application showed that you did not have the equivalent
coursework for UCLA’s Math 32B (2nd quarter of Multivariable Calc), Math
33B (Differential Equations), and Physics 1C (3rd quarter physics).

Students who are missing more than 2 required prep courses are denied
regardless of GPA."

I’m taking Math 32B right now, and I’m taking physics 1C summer session 1, but whatever, it doesn’t even matter any more lol I’ll most likely end up at USC or stay at my current school.

I guess I exaggerated about the part where I said that they didn’t even look at my application but I feel like this is the same outcome.

Just got rejected…again.

“In response to your recent appeal regarding our Fall 2010 admission decision, we have carefully reviewed your application again. We are sorry to inform you that the initial decision stands.”

Oh well…if they weren’t convinced with a letter from the econ chair at UCI, there’s not much more I could do.

On the plus side, I’m about to get another 4.0 this quarter at UCI and have applied to the Business Admin program here as a change of major. Hopefully I get in there because frankly I’m sick of rejection lol.

Thanks for all your support CCers! It really means a lot and helped me get through the wait. :)

Sorry to hear that Sandaboy. Their loss!
