Official UCSB 2014 Transfer Thread

@bkkn2010 I’m still pending. My TAU was submitted January 8th and apparently was not received until March 18th. I submitted it so early hoping that would help and I don’t understand why it took so long for them to receive it. Really hoping that’s not the reason I’m still pending. :confused:

@dwencel24, they don’t look at personal statements in making decisions. I applied as a communications major but my personal statement was about psych

@als926 I think that could be the reason why, it makes sense to me that they would work on them based in chronological order of the TAU.

anyone else pending have a late TAU received date?

@HappyRabbit123‌ How many credits did you get at a CCC and your previous 4-year university?

Or, did anyone that was accepted already have a late TAU received date?

My issue with the TAU thing is that it doesn’t make sense that they got it so late if it was sent in much earlier.

Had the online confirmation since last week but just got the official letter in the mail, lol UCR had some 3d booklet, SB just had a picture of campus. Already had received unofficial aid package and combined with GI Bill looks like a full ride. Still waiting on USC, UCB, and UCLA in about 3 weeks.

SB is going to be tough to beat specially after Spring Insight/Open House next Saturday. Anybody else going?

I guess that admission don’t read personal statement for transfer students. However, they do read personal statement for freshmen. I just attended a Webinar. The counselor mentioned that its 50% GPA and 50% personal statement for freshmen. And also, don’t forget that your personal statement is also a factor in determining your financial aid awards.

There might be other factors besides completing major course requirements and GPA. It is not all about academic achievements. Maybe like your residency is also a factor - if your from CA or outside the state.

After a torturous wait, my daughter got accepted to UCSB. We just got the message (not by email, on the site) about half hour ago. She was a TAG, but was disqualified as she was doing the math in-progress, but still got in. I believe it was because she had intermediate algebra (not transferable, but on her transcript) that showed an A. The counselors at UCSB told me as long as they can see some math somewhere it should be OK - and it was.
Major: communication
GPA: 4.0
IGETC: yes
MAJOR REQ: done (if they had them, can’t remember)

FYI, the two essays are only read by UCLA and Berkeley. None of the other seven UCs look at the essays. This is what it says on a UC page and I have had that verified elsewhere. (It may have changed this year… )

@UCpsychtransfer‌ based on first college student in family and Mexican heritage, you’re in. Plus 3.73 GPA is nothing to sneeze at.

@lindyk8‌

How did you know your daughter was disqualified from TAG?

@TonyStark93‌ it’s a clause in their TAG we missed and her counselor never bothered to check when they submitted. The math and english requiremt classes have to be completed by fall 2013. No ifs, ands or buts. Your out if TAG. I talked to two counselors. There are no exceptions. You are funneled into regular acceptance but what they don’t make clear is even as reg app they want to see some math completed. A counselor emailed me that if no math shows but only in progress, she probably would not get in at all. They really should make that clear on their site. My daughter (our whole family!) was in turmoil.

@lindyk8‌
In addition, UCI and UCM also reads it. You can find the info by googling UC Transfer Matrix.

Ah thx, @Loyshi‌ ! First time I’ve ever seen that page. A ton of info. Actually I’m glad more read it. If you spend the time to write it, ppl should take the time to read it.

Accepted 4/3

Overall GPA: 3.92
Units: 66 by end of spring
Major: Pre-Econ
Major Prep Work: Completed in fall sem.
IGETC: Will be complete before transferring, not certified though lol
Applied: SB, SD, LA, Berkeley

@5nonnegotiables for the CC around 75 , they count 16 courses from my international transcript

Still pending. For anyone who gets their acceptance today or within the next few days, would you mind posting which day your TAU was received? I think that must be the order that they’re going through applicants and mine was received on 3/04 despite being submitted on 1/08. I want to see where we’re at right now so I can know how much longer I’m going to be waiting.

@HappyRabbit123‌

Did I have anyone check to make sure you are not over the transferable credit limit?

@5nonnegotiables‌ They have not said anything about excess the upper unit limit But they have count almost all my classes over there. Some of them is unreasonable.

@HappyRabbit123‌

I think the max is either 89 or 90 transferable semester units. My transfer advisor said I had to be careful not going over and i only could take 13 credits this semester. More than that would I think make a person inelgiable for transfer into atleast ucsb, i think. let me look it up. Are all your classes for sure transferable?
