Official UCSB 2014 Transfer Thread

I sent mine on jan 8 but they didn’t receive it until feb 28

ACCEPTED!
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.8
Major Prep: Missing 3(!)
IGETC: Yes
TAG: No
Applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCSC, UCD
Admitted: UCSB
Pending: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSC, UCD

I’m so happy to finally get to fill this thing out! I’ve been checking all the schools with rolling admissions multiple times a day. Now UCSD needs to hurry up and release another batch!!

^ nice job. I’m sure you’ll get into UCSD.

@anavera no one would ever know how did these people decide the RECEIVED date and put them onto our myadmission page. What im trying to figure out here is whether or not the dicision releasing process is somewhat related to the received date appearing on their official portal. And the logical conclusion so far is that these two factors are actually connected with each other.

@TT4UCOSBEL‌ Logically, it makes sense. If they receive it earlier, no doubt they will review your whole application earlier. What I want to know is why there is such a big gap between the submitted date and the received date for some people, and why it’s smaller for others.

@anavera just like what I said—no one would ever know O(∩_∩)O

@bigbd22‌ I start to wonder whether they admitting students for the Engineering department. I saw so many denies.
You should really call to ask for the reason.

@bigbd did you tag ucsb and not get in??

Yes I did tag and had all my pre-reqs finished. I will call tomorrow and let everyone know what happened.

@bluebird818‌ I applied for ChemE as well and have a lower gpa so looks like I might not get in

@bigbd22 WHAT?! Oh my gosh, that is crazy. I also tagged USCB from sbcc, poly sci major. That was my safety school. Then I did the AA-T thing for SDSU, and that was my back-up sure thing. I did everything for the AA-T & TAG and with all the extra everythings, and with a high GPA, and I was denied at sdsu yesterday !! So shocked… like how can that be?? So then I was thinking that I have no idea if and where ill get in now. Ive seen a bunch of people get denied with a tag. crazy. i worked closely with my transfer adviser, but im still pending at ucsb and my fingers are crossed. i also applied to ucla, cal, davis (last choice), usc and cal poly (which i got in). so please let me know what you find out… sorry to hear that. where else did you apply??

I wouldn’t sweat the SDSU rejection too much. I’m a polisci major as well with a 3.61 GPA, all pre-reqs complete, got into UCSB and CSULB (still waiting for UCI and UCSD) but got denied at SDSU. It kind of surprised me as well until I read that they have a huge preference for local SD residents. I saw people with low 3.0s and high 2.0s getting into SDSU so I’m guessing they were all SD residents.

@smitk1505h thanks. good to know. funny thing is… I live in Del Mar, so I am a SD resident. who knows how they decide i guess. good thing you are in two schools and good luck on the others.

@lindyk8 I almost didn’t apply to UCSB because the UCSB rep at my cc college fair told me not to even try. Since my math was not going to be completed until spring, he said not to even bother because they were not going to wait for me to finish such a big requirement. At first I had only applied to UCLA,UCB,UCSD,UCI,and UCR. Last minute I decided to go ahead and apply to UCSB anyway, and i got in.

Denied.

Major: Pre-Biology

Transferring from: CCC

GPA: 4.0

IGETC Finished, as well as all pre-reqs including two semesters of o chem, physics, bio, and calculus.

120+ units, with about 30 of them from a 4-year private university

I’m thinking the high number of units must’ve been what got me denied, though I thought UCSB had just changed their policy to accept students with high units…

@bigbd22‌ two possibilities: your required math is IP in which case you are denied TAG, but may still get in if there is any other math (even non-transferable) that they can see. Sticklers on the math. Next is if your major is impacted they may have wanted IGETC, not sure.

I think they just go through them randomly, that’s what a UCSB counselor told my daughter on the phone a while back. What was weird was in mid-to-late-March they told her they hadn’t even looked at hers yet - and yet some folks had already been admitted. They obviously have different stations or something. Her date was late Feb. She did get admitted about 5 days ago.

@lindky8 I actually completed all of my math my first year of college. I received a B in calculus 3 and an A in differential equations/linear algebra so I didn’t have any math to worry about. And for engineers we didn’t need the igetc I don’t believe or else we would have way to many units. But I’ll make sure tomorrow for everyone else.

@5nonnegotiables‌ thanks man and ya I’m just not doing well I guess. Maybe it’s the 26 units I’m taking this semester? Most of them aren’t major related but who knows and I applied to UCLA,UCSD,UCSB,UC IRVINE, CalTech, cal poly and csun. So far I’ve been accepted to csun but denied to ucsb and Cal poly. I don’t even know if I have a chance like I thought I did. My number one was Cal poly or Cal tech. Cal poly denied me and cal tech is just a dream school. My next 2 were Ucla and Ucsd, but after being denied to ucsb I don’t think I’ll get into either. That only leaves me with uc Irvine. :((

@bigbd22‌ how are you taking 26 units this semester, when the max at sbcc atleast is 18 per semester? How many transferable credits would you have coming in…could you be over? I could only take 13 this semester because not knowing for sure exactly how many classes ucsb would take, I needed to play it safe because I’m pretty close to the max and didn’t want to go over, which would automatically disqualify me.

Well I read somewhere that the ucs take most transfers from ccc over 90%, so it’s not done till its done. And you never know about caltech. Good luck
