Declined UCSC’s offer of admission today. It would be awesome if that spot went to someone else on here, but I guess we’d never really know =P

Are we obligated to decline admission to the schools we don’t plan on going? Or is it purely optional?

I got in yesterday Psych major third year transfer
UC GPA: 3.01
OVER ALL GPA: 2.98

check your prerequisites, and the location where you live also factors in.
for example, i have 6 prerequisites for UCLA (only need 3) and 3 for CAL,
and they want four. not all schools have identical admission qualifications.
and each department fills up a varying rates. UCSB is great. and much
harder to gain admission there than UCSC, so congratulations.

@Medium- Northbeach is right. Pre-reqs play a big role in everything, and each school has a different amount (and types) of pre-reqs required. What is your major?

No word today either! Such a bummer. Today is the day I’m heading off back down to SoCal too…Wish I would’ve heard while I was here!

@ Chelz: I’m not sure but it may possibly affect wait-list people or something. It only takes a second though, not a big deal. I already declined some of the cal states. Feels good to turn schools away. lol

Chelz, we do not have to, but you can if you want to.

@kingdomsroa48 - Thank you very much for the reply! My major is philosophy.
I just checked the pre-reqs for ucsc and turns out that I didn’t take one of the courses that was listed.
Oh well…

@medium- I don’t think missing one pre-req would disqualify you from admittance, especially if your GPA was high or above the average admitted and your major is non-impacted. I’ve seen quite a few people on this board missing multiple pre-reqs get into UCSC. If you are really dead set on attending UCSC I would definitely appeal that. Perhaps you got a disgruntled admittance counselor or something. Either way, I wish you luck with any other schools you might have applied to!

Alright…These schools have THREE MORE WEEKS total to notify me…I can’t believe UCLA/Davis/Cal kids might get their admittance before I even hear from lower tier UC’s like UCR and UCSC…the heck?

@kingdom I was just at UCSC a few hours ago and the presenter who spoke said ‘truthfully, we are still reviewing transfer apps at the moment’. I wouldn’t fret…but wow it must seem like forever hang in there!

Did anyone else receive the following message as a reason for rejection: “Your application for admission for the fall quarter 2012 has been reviewed, and unfortunately, you do not currently meet our campus selection criteria as a junior transfer.”

I took 45 quarter units at a private college and took the classes I thought would transfer, and I took 50 at a CC. I don’t understand this. Will call and ask tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone received a similar message.

^We’re kinda on the same boat. Kinda. Got the same message. Weird, because I got into UCD and they didn’t have any issues with my 4-year foreign university units. I had my non-CC transcript evaluated at UCB and they all oughta follow the same protocol when it comes to determining which foreign courses can be deemed UC-transferable. Dunno what happened here with UCSC.

@anythinggoes- Haha, thanks! I appreciate it. Gotta say though, its really difficult getting on here multiple times a day to see everybody getting into their school of choices with no word from anywhere yet. Not to say that I’m not happy for everybody else though. Its just, this trip for the last week to UCSC really got me angsty about this whole wait.

@collegiums/archereon- Maybe because you hit a unit cap? I know that the UC’s require that you do not exceed more than 90 units to qualify as a junior transfer, although I don’t know if this particular amount is limited to UCSC. I believe this cap is waived if you’ve taken ALL of your units at a CCC, but you’re out of luck if you have coursework from another four year institution. Had to look into this one myself. Also, UCSC seems like its been really weird in their admissions decisions this year. You guys could always call and ask?

Yeah so I called, and my hunch was correct - I didn’t meet the minimum 60 units required for transfer. Apparently they only credited two courses from my 4-year so I was a few points shy from the minimum 60. Interesting how representatives from various UCs and international admissions specialists all told me that they follow the same protocol and yet only 2 got credited for SC. So sad. -_-

Why the crap. People have been rejected from here and I am still waiting. I have a 3.83 GPA, and I am a psych major with IGETC completed and a ton of my prep for majors done. I have already been accepted to UCI and UCSD and I am waiting on this school and UCLA. My mind is literally going crazy because I haven’t heard back from here yet. I just want to know something! :/

@ Ravous: Is UCSC your first choice? I don’t know what you would be worried about if you got into I and SD already.Would you choose SC over either of those two?

So i got accepted to ucsc, but im waiting for ucsd >< im still trying to decide whether its better to go to state instead of a uc

@ ieatsharks: I struggled with deciding between a CSU and a UC also. I’m a communications/PR major so obviously CSUF, CSUN, CSULB, SFSU would be a better choice for the more practical majors. But I decided that I’ve come too far and worked too hard for this, so to not go to a UC now would be a waste.

@idizzle! ur right! we deserve it ! :)
