Official UCSC Transfer 2012 Decisions

Haha well I suppose that approach works as well! I could understand wanting to stick around LA if it makes your life a bit easier. Also, I’m pretty sure UCSC has sent out admit packets? I’ve heard people talking about them, so maybe you just haven’t received it yet. I’m pretty sure they’ve haven’t released FinAid decisions yet, though.

^ yes, financial aid. first all this stress and then we still have to pay for it. haha

@kingdom Indeed I am. I’m a California resident and just… I’ve learned I belong there and not back here so alas I shall return… Eventually.

@iDizzle Well I asked CSULA and they said I won’t be completing their requirements, but I already have. lol And so they got back to me and said I should appeal within 5 days, but since I had already been admitted to SDSU, I was just like “Meh, too lazy.” lol

I didn’t ask CSUN, because I just didn’t care and because I live about 30 minutes from CSUN by WALKING haha, but a bunch of CSUN students were telling me how it just got highly selective because of some budget cuts or something and that they weren’t even getting their classes at all… so they would end up going to Pierce College as concurrently enrolled. Fail. Oh, and supposedly, CSUN is blocking admissions in 2012-2013–Less in Fall and none at all starting Spring 2013–because CSAC told them that they got in trouble and abused the financial aid system? lol Idk, I don’t even believe that, but the four people who told me (at the same time, drunk) were saying how that stuff is like basically general knowledge to CSUN students now. One of them couldn’t even register at all for next semester because she’s a junior so she was just like I won’t be going to school for a while. So if any of that stuff is true, CSUN failed miserably. haha

^^ Oh I see. I got into CSUN but I decided I’m not going to a CSU. LOL. yeah there is a whole CSU freeze for 2013 transfers/freshmen. I write for the school news paper at my CC and I’m writing a story about this in the next edition. Lucky that we are transferring this fall. It’s going to be WAY harder next year because all the transfers who would of went to CSU will be flocking to the UCs.

Man I remember all the idiots from HS thinking they were big shots going to CSUN straight out of High School. Look at me now n1ggaz!

@iDizzle no CSU at all? haha I have no choice but to go to CSU since the only UC to which I have been admitted so far is UCR… obviously I would pick SDSU haha. But, if UCSC accepts me, I would SIR to UCSC right away! But they’re taking so long so I’m probably going to be outright rejected.

But wow, every 2013 transfer seeking admission to UC? I can only imagine. They would probably shut down TAG at all the UCs!

Idk, I guess I just thought that since CSU generally has the more “mature” transfer population, they would just not apply to UC and just wait it out for a while because each campus is generally too far from their jobs or their homes. I mean, look at CSULA and CSUN’s local admission areas. Both are in LA county. The closest UC for the service area is UCLA, known to be the UC who is notorious in admission selectivity. I’m sure a lot of those mature applicants would just be like “Meh, pay 75 bucks for an application that would most likely reject me? I don’t think so.” The same idea goes for the CSUEB, SFSU, and Maritime local admission areas. They’ve only got UC Berkeley as their alternative, which is also highly selective.

Whatever, it’s 2012, the end of the world as we know it anyway. hahahahaha

^^I actually got into a few CSUs. SFSU WAS my top choice though. I’m sure they would get rid of tag, they already limited us to TAGing to one campus this year. I disagree, I think UC applicants go the extra mile to write the essays. I think CSU applicants are more like “get in and get out” type of mentality. When I came back to cc I had that mentality too but now that I CAN get into a UC, hell why not. Either way, its not going to get better, not anytime soon at least. If I were in that position I’d rather go the extra mile to apply to a UC than sit around for possibly 2-3 years before admissions open up again. I’d be over it by than and probably give up on school…again! I’m trying to get an interview with a CSUF advisor this week to see what they have to say about the freeze.

SFSU is trash dude. You should read the ratings on yelp. It’s a CCC all over again

Well I don’t know if its trash but my gf is graduating this fall and wants to go look for a job up in the bay area. We live together, so I just thought it would be convenient for us if I ended up going there too.

@iDizzle
UC UC UC. SFSU is not a terrible school, but i would never consider it because i can attend a UC. i did not apply to any state schools because i am just not a fan of CSU system, and they have far less money compared to the UC system. even their IGETC requirements were lame if you ask me. but i can understand keeping your options open. anyway, you will get into CAL and then you will be close to SF. good luck!

Anyone care to expand on this for me? I plan to transfer to a UC in Fall 2014 (don’t even start CC until this Fall). I’m not interested in any CSUs, but is this projected to have a significant impact on the UC transfer process?

^Just to clarify, I do know that the CSU system froze admissions for Spring, but are there rumors that they will do this for Fall in the future? I never thought a whole lot of students applied for Spring admissions for CSUs anyway, and therefore would not impact UC admissions in a significant way.

@turtlerock, its basically the CSUs not accepting applicants for the spring semester, i dont know how it would bean the CSU students “would flock to the UCs” because the UCs dont accept Spring transfers. so I dont see how it would affect people much, except those wanting to transfer for the spring. As for the Fall enrollment for future terms, the CSUs might limit the number of students they accept, so instead of adding more students for the next year, they might just keep the accepted applicants to the same number as the previous year. to limit the enrollment…this is just so the schools can save somemoney.

I see, so possibly in the future the CSUs may limit Fall acceptances and so the CSU applicants may choose to apply to some UCs as well to increase their chances of being accepted to a public California college?

i’ve been watching some videos on ucsc on youtube. now, i LOVE california for its liberalness and efforts to be green. i love that people are open-minded and sometimes very weird. BUT what i do not like are smelly people. i get nauseous just thinking about the zombie breath of the kid that sat next to me a year ago in my trigonometry class. it just looks like there are a lot of types at ucsc that don’t bathe on a regular basis or do not use deodorant. this isn’t me saying i don’t like hippies or whatever anyone wants to call themselves. i just don’t like body odor.

anyway, my point is… can anyone validate this? even at my current CC i will be walking OUTSIDE on a windy day and i can still smell someone’s BO from ten feet away from me sometimes. not that i am very sensitive to it, but it’s just that i can’t handle it being any more prevalent than it already is where i attend school. i am NOT being racist, but most of the time it is international students.

i feel bad even asking this, but ugh i need to know!

^^^well it is known UCSC is for pothead…and anywhere you go will have those people that still live in their mother’s basement, who dont know how to present themselves…it acutally quite trashy for people…I just think people are just ghetto…I mean wearing sweatpants and pajama pants to class…thats just trashy…and for people who cant take a shower every morning…its just filthy…

I read an article about the change in admissions policies at CSU. They are contingent on the outcome of a state proposition on the November ballot. If the proposition passes (and taxes are raised and CSU receives more money), they will not change their policies. If the proposition fails, another huge budget cut for both UC and CSU will be triggered. Their response to failure to pass:

 1. Freeze admissions for spring transfers from community colleges (with some exceptions)
 2. Placing every freshman applicant to the system in next years admission cycle on a waitlist rather than offering acceptances. Then later deciding how radically to cut enrollment by way of reducing eventual admission offers.

^^ ■■■■ *. you’re acting like the only potheads in the entire world live at UCSC. I just visted the campus not too long ago. Let me tell you how it REALLY *ing is.

Yes, there are some hippies on campus. Do some of them look grungy? YES. Is everyong there a hippy? NO. I saw some REALLY beautiful girls who could be models. They were wearing really cute clothes too, and they weren’t trashy or grungy in the least bit. I also saw a lot of couples on campus. None of them looked dirty or like they were pot heads. They just looked like normal people. I saw mexicans, asians, whites, and even (gasp) african americans. YES UCSC is a DIVERSE campus with ALL KINDs of people. Not just dirty hippies or grungy guys.

Santa Cruz is a beach city so the people may look or dress differently than you, BUT they DO have good hygiene and I don’t think they should be labeled “dirty” because they’re going for a more natural look. I kinda appreciated the girls who looked natural, it was nice compared to most of the girls in my city, with nasty caked on makeup and trashy clothes.

i don’t care if they’re wearing D&G or walmart or thrift store clothes. i don’t care if they’re white, black, brown or purple. i don’t care if a girl wears a ton of make up (though it makes her look terrible) or if she hasn’t shaved her pits in six years. i just wish some people would discover the inherent value in showering/deodorant and doing laundry. i had a roommate once that made nearly six figures and showered nearly every day, but no one ever taught him to use deodorant… so he still stank and i couldn’t go near him.
