Merced gave me $15,000 grant o.0

^Also nice!

Man, I’m getting so anxious! I gotta admit, I kind of feel left out with everybody being accepted and receiving their financial aid already… sigh UCR DID ask me something about my FAFSA a while ago, but I have yet to submit any documentation they requested because I have no intention of going that school unless I absolutely have to.

Congratz on the FinAid awards, everyone!

@iDizzle
ive been offered 5,500 from ucsc not inluding loans, but ucr only offered 732

@stevo: Yeah that’s weird. Do you think the schools offer more if they need students? I’m getting $18,474 from Pell and Cal grants from all schools regardless but so far UCSC has offered the most UC grant.

@JasonSkim

Yeah, ~27k in grants/work study, with 7200 in loans (5500 subsidized, the rest unsubsidized).

Conditional SEOG Grant: 3,000.00
Conditional Pell Grant: 5,550.00
Conditional UCSC Grant: 15,241.00
Conditional UC Tuition Grant: 1032.00
Conditional Work-Study Option: 2000.00

And the rest is loans.

I’m actually not opposed to direct loans, but I think I could probably come up with 7.2K a year between merit scholarships/paid research.

@iDizzle
im not sure, i hope other schools provide more grants

@lawlking I barely got accepted to Merced today. i haven’t finished their financial aid stuff though.

What’s an SEOG Grant?

The financial aid at each UC is not going to be the same because each UC has a different cost. For example UCSC is more expensive than UCR which is why I received more financial aid from UCSC.

going to UCSC costs 34 grand
UCR costs about 33 grand (i think, off the top of my head)
UCM costs 33 grand too

Okay, so since my Financial Aid on MyUCSC still says “No financial aid information exists - we have not received your FAFSA or your FAFSA has errors” even though everyone else has already received their Financial Aid packages, I’m just going to assume that I’m not getting into UCSC. :’(

But why is UCSC taking this long to release my decision? I already understand that I’m a reject. Can I just get some closure now and get the rejection notice instead of pretending that I still have a chance?

This makes me so frustrated! I feel like calling the Admissions Office just to tell them to reject me.

Hmmm… It’s 831-459-2131 right?

I wouldn’t do that. Comes off as petulant and puerile, among other things.

^orgasmic- Whats your situation? Do you have all of your classes from a CCC? I was told by an evaluator (in person) yesterday that they honestly have an entire batch of student applications that they haven’t even began evaluated yet. I was also told that there is a batch of ~3.0 students that they have yet to release decisions, an undecided bunch, if you will, because they are waiting on results from other applicants and haven’t come to a decision yet.

SEOG and PELL…is basically for students with financial academic need…bluntly speak, its for lower income…

@samurai92

Yeorp, I have an EFC of 0.

Before I quit working, I didn’t qualify for enough aid - and it sucked (I’ve also been independent from my parents since 18). Post-job, I finally get full aid and it’s rad. There’s this weird in-between income bracket where you qualify for aid, but it’s not enough (plus you’d have to work FT and go to school FT) - it’s the worst place to be.

^ orgasmic danger
hang in there. i hope they accept you.
many students are still waiting for news from UCSB
and a poster on here noted that last year decisions were
pending until may 1st. not getting rejected is
good news. decisions come out for other UC schools
pretty soon and maybe a lot of kids will drop their
acceptances at UCSC and make room for more kids.
who knows. but hang in there! good luck!

My financial aid package is about 25k in grants, rest in sub loans (with work study). Is anyone gonna be staying in the transfer community? And if you do stay in there to do you have to pick porter as your college or how does that work?

oh my EFC is zero thats why i got so much

How long from when you were accepted to UCSC did they send you the information about Financial Aid???

@Dremaniac
I almost positive I will be going to UCSC. I went last week to the spring spotlight and just fell in love with it. I saw the transfer community and its pretty nice, if i do end up going to UCSC I will be most likely living in the transfer community. i asked someone and they said you can be apart of any of the colleges but by living in the transfer community at porter you dont really do a lot with the college you are apart of. the girl i talked to said she was in stevenson but lived at the transfer community and wishes she had picked porter instead

Yay just got accepted!
Major: global studies econ

Extra curricular activities: 3 part time jobs working since I was 15, volunteer tutor at an elementary school, tennis captain in hs although I don’t think they really look into high school accomplishments

UCSC was my first choice back in high school but now its just my backup school. But still omg still relieved especially because my GPA is terribly low. Ahh! Now I can relax at Coachella.

I was quite surprised to have gotten accepted because UCSC specifically states that on their website they dont accept transfer students with less than a 3.0

DOES ANY ONE KNOW ONCE THE SCHOOL ACCEPTS YOU, WHEN WILL WE FIND OUT ABOUT OUR FINANCIAL AID REWARDS?
