if given the option, would you guys choose ucsb or ucsc and why?

@kingdom I read your post about UCSB and I thought you were going to say you got rejected to UCSC and I got sad. UCSB is a dumb party school who wants to go there anyways? I didn’t even apply there. GO UCSC!!!

@anexia most people would prolly say UCSB bc its ranked pretty high and its a party school. I would rather go to UCSC though bc its right next to the beach and its inside a forest of red woods!! its so prettty:) and the campus isnt full of litter and bums like UCSB is. UCSC is clean and full of friendly deers :)

heres some pics i took when i visited:

yes i know im an awesome photographer. lol

nice pics. how long did it take to you to get there?

like 7-8 hours. we took the 1 though so it was worth it. and on the way there we found a beach that was gated off and said no trespassing so we hopped the fence and there were elephant seals on the other side!! it was so cool i got pics of them too :3

@anexia
I would definitely choose ucsc over ucsb. SB is really just a party school- which can be fun, but it gets old really fast. I went there one year for halloween because they are notorious for having like the craziest halloween ever- seriously i met people who came there from germany and australia saying there friends told them about it and they wanted to be there. but it was intense. its in Isla Vista which is like where everyone lives that goes to SB and i walked into this one house and saw this girl laying on a bed and realized she wasnt really breathing- i checked her pulse which was nearly nonexsistent and called over the cops to get her- which isnt difficult because the place has so many walking around during halloween because its crazy. they took her out on a stretcher- i saw about 8 more people that night being carried away on stretchers… its fun there, for one night- at least for me. I like UCSC’s laid backness and how beautiful the campus is, seems a lot more down to earth which i guess is just more me

@anexia
pour moi; definitely UCSB over UCSC. UCSB has an amazing history department and offers a degree in the History of Science and Technology (like UCLA). their graduate history department was ranked above Yale and UCB by the National Research Council recently. UCSC does not have an impressive history department. but UCSC has great physics and mathematics, from what i have read. UCSB is much more difficult to get accepted into than UCSC—but i guess you know that. i also love santa barbara and do not particularly want to live in santa cruz.

UCSB also has amazing international exchange programs that have sent more kids overseas than any other UC in recent years.

@beachbum
UCSC is a superb school, agreed. but kids getting drunk in isla vista does not really have anything to do with school. n’est pas? i do think it is hilarious that people worry about UCSB being a party school. if that is the complaint, let them party on. anyway, i am older and will look forward to having the library all to myself—if i end up going there. so thrilled to be accepted.

stressed out right now. Got in with tag, but still high chance of getting denied in to baskin for computer game design. while my friend got in with no tag last year with missing pre-req and a 2.8gpa i think last year was the last lenient year wasn’t it for most transfer?

@northbeach
no argument that UCSB is a great school, and i actually would say that its party reputation does have something to do with the school. not that it disregards it in any way as a great school in academics. but that a lot of people who go there have that type of mentality, and that you will meet a lot of people who chose it because it is a top party school. but nonetheless it is a great school and in a beautiful place as well, i was just saying that for me i like the area and atmosphere of santa cruz over santa barbara

^ yeah, my father likes UCSC. he went to CAL and Stanford himself, but he knew the chancellor of UCSC: Gregory Bateson who was a graduate of Cambridge and later the chancellor of all UC schools. UCSC is set up in the “English system” according to my father, who loves the natural setting and the fact that “Even the jocks voted for the Banana slug as the official mascot.” i would consider it if i were a physics major, my CC math teacher teaches at UCSC and he is fantastic: Professor Migliore.

anyway, i am probably repeating myself in this thread.

seriously any UC school right now is superb and the party school days are pretty much a thing of the past in this economy. seriously, it is so hard to get into a good UC right now and the cost of school is very high compared to days of yore when people could just goof around and graduate. isla vista is a pretty raunchy party town. a lot of people hang around schools they don’t even attend just to party. have fun!

@ northbeach: LOL!.. library all to yourself. I always wish for that. I hate the ******s who go into the library to F’in HANG OUT and TALK during finals week when its all crowded with people trying to study. I want to give them 5-fingers to the face sometimes. LOL

^ oh yeah. don’t get me started on the noise makers in the library with their mobile phones. haha. i like that “five fingers to the face” gotta try that some day.

by the way, the UCSB library is open till midnight–and 2:00 during finals week! party party!

^^lol, yeah.

@ uchappytrain: Thanks for the pictures. SC looks so serene =]. From the pictures I would imagine that UCSC has a whole network of zip-lines to get around campus, am I wrong? =] LOL

@idizzle lol that would be so cool if they did have ziplines, the campus is perfect for them too. they have buses running 24/7 though. I saw a lot of people waiting for the bus on campus, there’s always like 20 people waiting.

since you guys are talking about the library and talking, you should watch this video it’s pretty funny lol

[CSUN ASIAN LIBRARY FINALS FREAKOUT 2011 - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

^^ LOL. aww man. zip-lines>buses

^ if you dudes go to UCSC don’t you need beach cruiser bikes? or dune buggies?

@uchappytrain
oh no, that is a real life library horror movie. ack! hahahaha that is crazy man.

^UCSC is wayyyy bike unfriendly!

^ really, bike unfriendly? that is goofy.

Not because they aren’t allowed or anything- They absolutely are! There are just so many huge hills around the campus that riding a bike really doesn’t save that much time.
