Official University of Chicago 2020 Waitlisted Applicants Thread

@TrazCapDEV did they call before school this morning? Also, was it your regional counselor who called? Congratulations! That must have made your day!

Ok I’m editing my original question because it made no sense  :

So I didn’t send my update/letter of interest yet, but I don’t have many updates. I sent an update letter in February with about 6 updates (all pretty note worthy) but I’m not sure if they looked at it or factored it into my application. Should I ask my regional counselor if it’s worth repeating these updates or…?

@CoramDeo7 They actually called during the day lol. They first called the college office, and the college office called me, and I called back. Yes, it was my regional counselor.

My son is on the waitlist. He submitted LOCI a couple of weeks ago. Today, he called the regional admission officer and was told to just wait. So the waiting continues but it’s good that they talk to you when you call them.

Since they’re already accepting students off the waitlist, do you think this means really overestimated their enrollment rate this year.

“approximately 1,000 students have accepted their spot on the wait-list, of whom about 80 will be accepted”— admissions representative via phone call yesterday

Is international wait list student has chance to get in?

I need some advice guys. I was accepted into Cornell RD, and am thrilled about it and am really considering attending even though UChicago was one of my two top choice schools. However, I’m considering just removing myself from the waitlist. I want to fall in love with Cornell since I’ll most likely be going (don’t get me wrong; Cornell is an amazing school, it just wasn’t my first choice), so I think I should let UChicago go.

Advice/opinions?

That seems really sensible to me!

@Hoped123 I’m international and I got in, so there’s hope

Any one else accepted? is there like a specific date or do they call randomly?

Did they update your portal after you got accepted?

@TrazCapDEV Did they update your portal after you got accepted?

@fdajvfdsd They will within 48 hours.

@Kasami same! i got into northwestern/georgetown with kinda okay financial aid packages; realistically, i should be focused on the amazing options i have instead of chasing after this near impossible one

Our kid made it in off the wait list also. Didn’t expect to hear back this quickly. Can’t describe the feeling right now. Still processing it. My wife shrieked, cried and laughed all at the same time. Son’s in shock. Feels strange to have such strong emotions over a “college decision”, but there it is.

@VeryLuckyParent congratulations to your family, did you receive a call or email?

@VeryLuckyParent which region are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

Congrats by the way!!!

@golfer1898: Son first received an unexpected email from Regional Counselor wanting to discuss his waitlist status and asking for convenient time to talk. My son freaked out, thinking that he was going to get rejected over the phone, with the “We are very sorry, but blah blah…” .

When the Counselor called. he asked if my son was still interested, asked if he had committed elsewhere: (Yes top choice, no),then gave him the good news.
