can you confirm the other answers in the tectonics passage?

@momof2ky I can confidently confirm that the nuances question was to explain the nature of plate tect, that the tone was breezy, and that the jigsaw question was to make the ideas more accessible. I am fairly certain about the visionary question being fusing together info from various fields and that the rhetorical question being humorous.

I’m with various fields for visionary. For the construction hat, it was sincere. People have said the passage was previously some what humorous but the question specifically asked why the author put it in. It wasn’t so that people could laugh but to sincerely state how dangerous it was.

people wear construction hats because of shifting techtonic plates? I find that more humorous (esp in the context) than sincere. lol. Also, i got 3 errors, 29 had an error i think. i got an 800 (-0 MC) on the june SAT writing if that adds any credibility. i could be wrong.

3 no errors*

also was the visionary question the one that had a MC answer of heralded future discoveries? cuz thats what i put.

Here is more evidence that I found for the “visionary question” being fusing information from various fields. “The theory of plate tectonics is a bona fide theory, too, a comfortably capacious conceptual framework that explains an array of disparate findings”.

does anyone know if the Eliza/Matt marriage passage was experimental?

Lorna/Matt *

You are overthinking it strom… This question is really just testing your knowledge of what visionary means. A visionary is someone who changes the trajectory of the future, for instance Steve Jobs. For someone to a be a visionary they have to influence future ideas/theories. Thus because his discovery would herald (bring forth) new theories he was a visionary.

Also, of the 4 kids in my AP English class who got 750+ CR, all 4 of them (and myself included so that is 5) said that the hard hat was humorous. I think you sort of have to be tone deaf to miss that question.

sheep, did you have an experimental reading? if not, did you have the marriage passage

Sheep, it didn’t ask for the definition of visionary but why he used that word. This makes it less of a vocabulary question and more of an inference. Also when you begin scoring 700+, it’s mainly hit or miss, depending on what the CB thinks.

I agree with classic lays, there is explicit reference to the fusing together of different fields in the same sentence as visionary. I also think the word “incisively” is indicative of the fusing together being visionary.

Edit: Just to add though, sheep, the humorous answer is definitely right I would agree.

Does anyone remember the exact wording of the visionary question?

Can you guys answer my question? Did you guys have an experimental reading? If not, did you have the marriage question between Lorna/Matt?

Can somebody put up a consolidated list for reading? :(

By the way, for the marriage passage, the first paragraph was put in to describe a significant experience?

@sour, yes

@strom, you’re thinking too much into it. its asking why it was visionary. whereas parts of the passage indicate that “things are being combined with one another,” that doesn’t explain why its visionary. I believe visionary implies something futuristic, and heralding future discoveries would be the most logical answer.
