@ SethAlexander:
so your applying to the SCA program also! more people are popping up for the SCA program now on this forum. haha
by the way i’m applying for the animation program.

Howdy!

I’ve been wondering… Do you think admissions will look at both your common app essay and supplemental essay? Is the supplemental material only reviewed by SCA? I wrote an exceptional supplemental personal statement and I would hope that the University would consider it during their evaluation.

yeah i am expecting an SGR as well. Does anyone know if there is a correlation between when you receive an SGR and likelihood you’ll be accepted?

Historically, If you receive an SGR and get a 3.5+ in spring with no drops, Ws, etc you’re in. However I’d say that you need around a 3.7+ to be safe this year.

An SGR is basically saying you’re in, but we wanna see you keep up this pace before we accept you.

@SethAlexander:
from what I have been told by admissions is that your first choice and your second choice both get a copy of you common app. So yes I do think they will be able to look at your common app especially the supplemental part because I think that is where u were suppose to upload the SCA personal statement essay. :)

Just to warn you guys, I remember seeing a couple of posts in last year’s stat thread and there were a couple of people who got rejected after an SGR with a 4.0. So, it’s not a guarantee, but it’s a pretty good sign since most people got in. Just keep that in mind.

Will keep that in mind. Just have to stay positive. Anyone know what the acceptance rate for Marshall is?

IDK about you guys, but my worry over college acceptances n stuff is starting to ware on my ability to study/stay focused. Any suggestions?

Got a letter saying they needed my transcripts for a class I’m taking this semester. Thought this was kind of confusing since it says I don’t need to submit anything else on USConnect but then says they need more info on the status check. Also the class im taking is right now at a CC so the transcript would just say in progress? Hmmm. What do you guys think

@bearterritory3

I’ve got 26 units completed (semester) and 13 transferrable units in progress. I’m told that if you’ve got over 30 units including Spring, they don’t look at your high school grades as much. I did pretty great in English in high school, but not so much the other stuff… I hope they look at my recent coursework (4.0) a bit closer.

Im pretty sure if you’re under 30 before spring they will look at your high school record. Not after spring.

@bearterritory3 @smalone3d

If you have under 30 credits before spring, they won’t look at your high school record. Hence, on the common app it made you list the courses that you are currently taking or will take. As long as you have more than 30 units by the time your school year ends it’s fine. That is the purpose of the Spring Grade Request and why mostly sophomores get it. It’s because they usually have below 30 credits completed by the time decisions are sent out. So the SGR is almost like a validation that you completed 30 or more credits after sending in your final transcripts. I’m from a 4-year university and I have a Fall and Winter semester. So if I do get an SGR then I will send my winter semester transcript after I finish it.

@khumdawn

i have the exact same feeling!! the thing that gets me to study and stay focused is by telling myself that studying and staying focused is the ONLY thing that can increase my chances of getting into SC

When I attended the Transfer Day in November, more than one counselor said its 30 credits after spring semester and they won’t weigh your HS transcript as heavily

I remember calling USC admissions and the guy told me that as long as you have 30 credits by the time you will be (if accepted) enrolled at USC, your high school transcript wont be heavily weighed.

Anyone know if the gpa towards engineering transfers is a little more lenient? Seems like in past years engineering majors get in with slightly lower gpa’s.

I stand corrected about the unit situation ^^^

It seems like the gpas of engineering and letters and sciences majors are pretty low. The business majors seem to bring up the average heavily.

Do you guys know what the average GPA of sociology majors is? I haven’t really seen that many sociology majors on here so far

my friend just got a request for winter grades today in the mail. anyone else?
