Haha thanks. Yeah I’m thinking of applying to Northwestern’s BA acting program too. It’s really about taking a risk. And yeah I do want to have other interests as well as use something in theater. We’ll see. Keep me updated on how your essays go! Good luck.

I’m applying to northwestern too! I think my essays might be too long… But I don’t know what I should cut out! Do you have any idea how lon it should be ideally? I’m trying to keep it to one page…

HAHA I am the LAST person you should be asking. Writing is uh… ahem. Not my forte. So yeah I’m currently all over their website and this website reading about their programs before I attempt to write. Edit mine when mine are done? :)

@Cminor and @hajypajy
I’m applying to the School of Theater as well! Right now im a Proposed Theater Arts Major (BA) at UC Santa Cruz. I would like to get in the BFA program but I would be also happy with the BA at USC.

Hm…I’m in the same situation as you guys! Not an amazing high school record (mainly i had a bad SAT score) but I want to transfer in as a sophomore too! Damn. The deadline for SoT is creeping up on us: December 1st!

SAT: 1720
HS GPA: 3.6 (3.9 weighted)
2 APs: (US History and English Lit)

My current college GPA is somewhere between a 3.7 and 4.0 (not sure yet!..hoping to get a 4.0)

Question: Should I focus on Theater Classes or GE’s? I’ll have my writing out of the way by Winter quarter…And I’m going to try to get the Diversity requirement done. Should I try for anything else? The Language requirement?

@jamesbball: Look, I’m not going back and forth, but unless you’re an admissions counselor, you don’t know the process any better than other people could. Nobody had inquired to your opinion. I told you my reasons and I don’t go to a community college. I appreciate the dynamics though, it’s good to know there’s a spectrum of belief. Congratulations on Marshall though, that’s really competitive!

Hey guys! I have a few more questions. If I took 4 years of math in HS and I got a 5 on AP Calculus AB does that mean I got my math pre-req out of the way? Should I still take math in college?
And, if I applied to USC as a senior, and appealed to my rejection, does that increase my chance of admission? (since I showed initiative?) @hajypajy you are starting your essays already! That makes me feel so behind… haha!

@hoopro: yeah, it should. As long as you have a C or above for Algebra 2. It sounds like you’re good to go though, unless your major is something math related. I don’t think appealing a rejection necessarily puts you at a better position. Mostly, ‘showing interest’ includes visiting the campus or shadowing somebody, those types of things, but it might count for something.

@hoopro
What college within USC r u applying to. Like teddygrams said unless ur major involves a lot of math in it like engineering and you got a decent grade then i wouldn’t worry about it. Also the fact that u got a 5 on ur AP Calculus AB exam is pretty good too.

Anyone applying to the engineering or animation program?

Thanks teddygrams! @BlackRose21
I am going for comparative literature at USC (or Film Production at SCA) but either way it wouldn’t be heavily based on math/science, so I should be ok! :)

BTW, does anyone know if the comparative literature program at USC is easy to get into?

@kaikomai I think you should focus on GE’s since there arent any unit requirements for SoT specifically. Definitely focus on transferrable classes so you wouldn’t waste any time… But that’s just my opinion. Do you have a very extensive resume?

@teddygrams I didn’t actually mention USC specifically but I talked the programmes and opportunities offered. I guess if you think it makes your essay/chances better then there really isn’t any reason not to.

wow, so nervous about applying >_<! everyone seems to have good stats
I haven’t even started working on my common app yet since I have midterms and some of you are already done with your essays?!!

P.S. Anyone applying to Viterbi? I’m doing Chemical Engineering and would love to have someone to talk to =]

@Hopetotransfer: I’d say that doesn’t look too well, considering you had such a good standing in HS and it seemed your first year at that college was not reflective of who you were in HS. Consistency is the key, either that, or an strong upward trend. I was like you, where I had a lot of W’s and not so good grades, but I managed to pull that up. I only had those W’s and not so good grades because of my health which I could explain with a Hospital note… but not to discourage you, explain to them why you got those bad grades, what you intend to do, and how you will succeed in doing so. Do not give them excuses for why you did so poorly for those semesters. They are not looking for excuses. BTW, whichever major you intend to go for, go for the one which you think you can succeed in, since it will manage to look better. Also, I think it’s better to go for a lower math course so you can show them that you got placed in a math course that was too high and you were not ready for. GOODLUCK with your apps

P.S. Also, perhaps you should try tutoring for the Calc class if you are very serious about applying to Marshall. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SHOW THEM YOU ARE USC MATERIAL.

@Cinlei:
Hey another engineer! lol Yeah I’m applying to Viterbi as a computer science major. I’m kind of torn about what I want to do. I want to apply to for both computer science and the animation program they have at USC. But my core credits are in engineering so its probably wiser to put engineering as my first choice animation as my second and see where the chips fall. lol

@Cminor I will most probably do the interview yes… Although now I’m having doubts about the BFA auditions because it is quite difficult for me to travel to San Francisco or LA. Is it possible to submit a video? I’m not sure if I can make the audition dates.

My resume is very, very slim. I have two high school productions, a staged reading at UC Santa Cruz (currently in this right now), and then a few acting classes.

@hajypajy I wouldn’t mind looking over your essay either. You can PM me with it if you want a second set of eyes.
