Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

@Clueless Belle: It’s not below a 3.0 at the moment, but if I don’t watch my back, it could be after the fall semester.

I have a quick question I am hoping someone can answer for me.
I currently have about 40 units at Orange coast college as of right now and I am hoping to transfer to USC for the fall 2012 semester. I would like to transfer into Marshall but I do not have the required Business calculus class, does this make me ineligible? Or can I just apply to USC and gain admittance and then transfer into Marshall? Sorry I hope I am making sense.
Thank you guys in advance!

Does anyone care to read my personal statement for SCA Critical Studies major? I’m freaking out! Thanks…

Edit: I’m a prospective transfer student btw.

@Gratification: Lol, well my only advise is to work your ass off and try your best to maintain a 3.0; I know, sucky advise.

@jakehbradley: My advise would be to try and take Business Calc this srping 2012 semester, so at least they’ll know you will have the credit before you enroll there.

@DJdsu2015: I’d love to read your personal statement. Just pm it to me!

Do you guys think a C in Cal I would look really bad? A C would take my gpa down to about a 3.49, but all my other classes are A+'s.
I’m really gonna aim to bump my grade up to a B with my last test and final coming up, though.

Thats the problem, I cant take business calc this spring because I still have another math class to complete before I am able to take calc

Ok, here’s what I’ve gathered from the past four pages of this thread. According to hopefulgraduate1, who attended a transfer day, the “30 credit” deal means that you if you have 30 transferrable credits by the end of Spring semester, then you don’t have to send in your high school transcript or test scores, right? I hope this is true. I don’t really like the idea of spending more money and sending my scores when they aren’t great (27 ACT). My high school gpa was average (3.3-3.4), and I would hate to go back there or contact them since I hated high school. My college gpa, however, is better. I’m pretty sure I’ll be finishing off this semester with a 3.7-3.9 gpa and same goes for next semester. I’m willing to work hard for it. I’ve just started my “portfolio” for critical studies, which is already stressful enough!

I’ve been pretty busy with UC apps so far. The USC deadline for Fall 12 Marshall applicants isn’t until Feb 1, right? The Dec 1 deadline is only for freshman applicants, right? =X

oops, posted this in another thread, but this thread seems pretty active so I’m gonna post it here too :)

Hi all!
I’m trying for fall 2012 as a sophomore transfer. Has anyone looked at the common app yet? Are we required to turn in instructor evaluations? And what about the college official report? How are they supposed to know about your personal qualities and everything… I’ve never even met my college counselor.
How are you guys doing on ec’s? It’s my first year at college and I don’t have any :frowning: (I’m finding it hard to get involved while trying to avoid social/partying groups.) I hope USC doesn’t look too hard at college ec’s…I’m dying to be admitted for fall!

I am wondering about the instructor evaluations and college counselor stuff too .__.
are those REQUIRED? or just optional? If you have a high GPA do you think it is still necessary to submit teacher recommendations?

@DJ
I would suggest you send in your HS transcripts because even if it doesnt hold much weight, they still require it to be sent. It can only help you anyway, a 3.3 in HS to a 3.7/3.9 in college is an upward trend

@sooo
Check for your major. For example, The school of cinematic arts requires 3 letters of Rec but unless stated otherwise, you do not need a recommendation.

@jakehbradley: I go 2 saddleback… I applied last yr to marshall for fall 2011 and was spring grade requested, but when I told SC I dropped bus calc and had to take it in summer cuz of some health issues, they said that they couldnt except me without the bus calc class… Sorry :(

@jakeh
The good thing is you haven’t submitted your application to USC/Marshall yet. My suggestion is to either wait another year or if you absolutely can’t, apply to another school within USC that your prereqs match up with (for example, Music Industry B.S. has the same prereqs without business Calc)

Ok guys I finish my application and submitted them but now I’m confused on what to do about these “School Forms” on the common apps…

youve submitted your app already? dang. how is everyone else’s progress?! i’m applying to the theater school and dornsife. dont really know how my grades will turn out by the end of the term… I could potentially be screwed or just mediocre. my korean class kinda ****ed me over but we’ll see how everything averages out. when are you guys thinking youll be done with the app?

@Uptownmalik101
For USC, you don’t need any of the school forms. If you want, you can submit up to 3 instructor evaluations (print and give to prof.). Everything else is not required.

@s64693 what school forms are you talking about exactly?

Alright, so I plan to transfer as a sophomore (so at least 30 units) and I am leaning towards the Broadcast Journalism major. However, applicants to that major must submit a one page letter of intent and send a recommendation letter from a professor or counselor. I understand that since I will be a sophomore I can list my intended major as “open” which would be similar to undecided and I would not have to send in a letter of recommendation or letter of intent. Anyone facing the same dilemma? I just don’t know about the letter of recc, since I don’t know my counselor at all…

Edit: Also, USC states that they take + - grading into account. My school only gives solid letter grades, will that hurt me in anyway? Will USC know my school doesn’t give + - grades?

@hajypajy Yes I had to do my early since I’m applying for the music school and our deadline was December 1st. Also s65693 is talking about the school forms located on the common apps

Does USC care what classes you take as long as you have 30 units done by Spring? I am in my college’s Scholars program and they’re making me take 1 class per semester that does not fulfill any USC requirements. Should I drop out of Scholars or would that look bad on my application?
