I just started my first semester of CC. Just early planning :D

@Djpsu2015
Yeah the application I’m pretty finished with also its just the essays. I can’t believe how fast the deadline was approaching. It due less than a month! I still need to finish up and put my portfolio together. I was trying to finish it before I went back to school but it doesn’t look that way.

Also I know MitchAP(forgot other part of username sry! :P) said that we didn’t have to fill out the academic classes part. but don’t we need to put it what we are taking this semester?

Also is there a place where u put ur current major? I didn’t see it in the application and was wondering if I just overlooked it.

@glamiex: I called about this earlier, it depends on what you’re going into within SCA. The Film Production major requires 48 credits (which is probably why you heard that number), but the Screenwriting major, for instance, is 30 credits like most of the majors. I believe Production is the only SCA major that requires that many units. I’d assume if you applied for it without 48, but still stellar in everything else, they would consider you for your second-choice major or, if transferring as a sophomore, an Undeclared.

Is this required if we’re transferring from a cc for electrical engineering?

I’m currently a freshman at Colgate University with a 3.25 GPA. I had really good high school grades and extra-curriculars, but I sort of lost my footing first semester. I know I can get my GPA up, so should I wait until that happens or is it worth just applying now? I really, REALLY want to transfer for fall semester…

@SadFool - letters of rec aren’t required for Viterbi, but if you can secure them, they can only help, especially if you’re a sophomore transfer. =]

When do we get a USC ID? After we apply?

Do junior transfers recieve less fin aid than freshmen?

No depends on your parents income.

What I meant is there less available aid to transfers than freshmen?

USC calculates need using the CSS/Profile and FAFSA and awards aid to meet 100% of USC-determined need to all domestic students, both those who started as freshmen and transfers.

Juniors receive a larger Stafford loan component than freshmen (freshmen get $3,500 subs + $2,000 unsubs while juniors/seniors get $5,500 subs + $2,000 unsubs) and may be awarded more in work/study (juniors are assumed to be more mature and able to organize their time, so they can work more hours). Other than that, your package will depend on the information on the CSS/Profile and FAFSA, not on when you entered the university.

PLEASE remember that your FAFSA EFC is ONLY used to distribute federal aid such as Pell grant and Stafford loans. USC will use the CSS/Profile to distribute USC grants - the major component of most aid packages. Use the Net Price Calculator [USC Financial Aid - Planning for USC](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates2/netpricecalculator.html) to get an estimate of the aid you may receive.

Your CSS/Profile and FAFSA are due February 2nd, 2012, and parent and student tax returns are due March 2nd or as soon as possible thereafter.

Good luck!

Hey everyone, I have a random transfer question, it says online that rec letters aren’t needed, but some other friends claim that we do need them. What’s the verdict?

@xxabii: It depends on the school you are applying to.

@alamemom: OMG, thank you so much for the link! I also have a random question to ask you. I was wondering if you have seen any cases of people with high income and their financial aid packages? I know that USC aid would obviously be lower for such people, but would the COA still be manageable?

@gousc92: I’m applying as a Health Promotion & Disease Prevention major to the Keck School of Medicine. It doesn’t specifically say anything for my major, so I’m a little confused.

Also, if I were to send SAT/ACT scores today, would regular shipping be enough? Or do I need to do rush shipping? I’m only asking because with the cost of archived scores + the additional rush shipping cost, it’s so expensive!

Does it matter if you are still completing pre reqs for a CLAS major during the spring before transferring?

@uschopeful2013: I don’t think it matters, because when you enroll at USC if you’re accepted, you would be done with your pre-reqs. I’m taking my last pre-req for my intended major in the spring as well

Just to be sure, what is the essay topic for USC?

xxabi: Hmm, this is the first time I’ve heard of an applicant to that school. I would personally send them an email and figure out what recs are needed, if any.

And how long does regular typically take? If its around 4 weeks, then just send it that way, but if it’s 6 weeks or longer, consider rush shipping because feb 2nd is a little less than a month away X.x

@aisl09

In our main essay were asked to address are reasons for transferring and what we hope to accomplish. A bit generic, but allows us to get creative with it. Good luck

@gousc92: thanks! i emailed the admission’s person in charge of my major! and i decided to do regular shipping, it said 1-2 weeks!
