Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

@xxabii: Ok, that’s great! As you can tell, it’s been a while since I’ve had to send my test scores out, so I’m sorry for the way off estimate. =] Good luck to you!

I always tell people not to expect college to be affordable  . It seems no matter your income level or how much your family is expected to contribute, it comes as a horrible shock. Financial aid will hopefully make attending, with lots of scrimping and sacrificing by your whole family, just barely possible.

“High income” is a relative amount: to families earning $45,000/year, $70,000 sounds like a high income, while to families earning $120,000/year, $200,000 sounds like a lot - so it is hard to give a meaningful answer to your question.

Do the calculator and see what the estimate is so you have a ballpark figure. Keep lots of options open and wait until you have all your acceptances and packages before you make a final decision. In some cases because your USC decision may not arrive before your UC commitments are due you may have to make a deposit to hold your place at a UC while you wait.

Good luck!!!

Wait I thought transfers weren’t required to send test scores out?

Hi guys,
is there a way to check if your LoR has sent/received by USC? I asked a prof of mine who was overseas. She should’ve sent it out by now, as she told me she’d do it before the new year (gave it to her in Nov. so she had plenty of time).

I know mail tends to get lost, especially overseas… would like to know that my rec made it!

Thanks.

@lullabies: Right now, its looking like email is the best option. Email USC Admissions and see if they received it. But remember, its still early so don’t stress too much if they haven’t gotten it. I’m sure that as long as its postmarked by the due date, there won’t be an issue reviewing it. :)

oh btw are you all sending the letter of recommendations out directly to your intended school? it’s not done online or something, is it? thanks guys.

As far as I know you cannot sumbit LORs online. Plus, I remember someone posting USC does not require them but I guess they can only help.

I think you’ll be able to check the status of your application at a later date through this site:

[Application Status Check - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/status_check.html)

I am in a weird situation I am applying as a transfer to USC, straight out of high school I attended CSUN, after a year of attending I took a semester due to family issues and they disqualified me as a student, should I include that in my personal statement and how I am doing so much better in school now compared to how I was doing at CSUN?

Does anyone know what forms are mandatory for a transfer application? They have a list on Common app of downloadable forms: College Official’s Report, Instructor evaluation, School report and midterm report.

Also does anyone know the address of where we send in our transcripts and or forms, and if we have to send it in by feb 1st.

I’m a freshman at community college hoping to transfer in as a sophomore and this is my first time using common app so if anyone can help me and clear up the transcript process it would be great. thank you

^ none of those are required for transfers… No letter of recs…etc

thank you!

@PlatinumEdition: Yes, yes, yes! Haha, sounds similar to a situation one of my friends is going through, but yes. Anything on your application that can be explained further should be. Don’t leave anything up in the air. You want to give SC a complete and accurate picture of yourself. =]

Hey guys!
Can we put activities that we completed in high school under that section on the common app? I will be entering USC my junior (if accepted!!)

I’m applying as a junior as well, and I’m putting volunteer work I did during high school. So I’d say go for it :)

hi all,
Just to make sure- we don’t put any of our grades from high school/college on the actual app itself (except for the gpa portion)?
Instead they just look at the grades in the transcripts we send in?
thanks!

If anyone can answer my questions. First off do u need to finish your application first to send out your transcripts? Secondly what do we have to do to send out our transcripts…are there specific forums to send with it? As well when do we get our USC Id?

Correct. You’re only required to list your courses you took his fall semester and future spring courses.

I would because that way they’ll have a file to attach the transcript to. It might get lost but that’s just me. You could always call to confirm.

Just transcripts. Someone posted the link showing none of the forms on the CA are required by USC.

Got it thanks. And one last thing. Does the high school and college need to send the transcripts or can you just pick them up and mail them yourself? Or can we even turn in our transcripts at USC in person since I live close to the university

@Mchavez65: I emailed my counselor about submitting documents before I submitted my application and he told me that it would be fine, and that they would be filed away until my entire application was received. So, that’s just another perspective.

And they have to be sealed, signed and sent directly from the University. They seem to be more lenient on high school transcripts, though. I’m sure you could walk your hs ones in, but the college transcripts need to be sent in from your college.

Thats not true. I called USC yesterday and they said you can mail it or drop off the transcripts, hs and college
