Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

We put USC on our 2012-2013 FAFSA right? Along with our current school (and additional schools we’re applying to)?

Also, does anyone know the address to send transcripts to? lol.
++ Is anyone 100% positive that the COLLEGE transcripts must be postmarked by Feb 1? I only have one grade in, the rest are still getting to me… It’s a good GPA so far but one class, I’m sure, just looks so bad lol.

@lullabies: Yeah, and we have to do a CSS profile. It’s on Collegeboard.

Anyone know my chances?

Current School: CC in California
College GPA: 3.12 (Are they going to look at my spring grades? cause I’m planing on getting straight A’s which would lift me to 3.52)
HS GPA: 3.6/4.0 uw/w
College Credits: 31 by the end of this year
SAT: 2090 Superscore (2020 best single score)
Misc: Volunteer at 2 hospitals, one of which is a hands on internship, 3 year of track and field in hs, taught korean at a Korean school (still volunteer), volunteered at a therapeutic recreation center (camp for mentally/physically handicapped children), a couple clubs, got awards in piano.

My main concern is GPA in both HS and College. I had a calculus class which killed me…

Thoughts?

yeah about the css profile. its been a while since i last did that but isn’t it more for our ACT/SAT test scores. Do we need to still do that if we have over 30 credits?

Uhh, it’s for usc to give us grants. It doesn’t deal with test scores at all. At least I don’t think so, unless there’s a section I’m missing?

Quick question: on the css profile there is a section that says:

“2. What will be the student’s financial aid status during 2012-13?”

Do I put down "First-time applicant, entering student (or transfer student)

OR

Renewal applicant, continuing student?

I’m confused because i’m obviously not too certain if I will even get into USC. Or is the css profile only for USC? Do I even have to fill it out for my current school? Or only the FAFSA for both the current and transfer schools?

Sorry if that made no sense…

@DJ you would say first time assuming this is the first time you’ve filled out the profile. Renewal is for those who have already filled it out before for last year. Kinda like how Fafsa prefills your information every year you file so you only have to make minor tweeks.

Sorry to double post, but can anyone revise a short answer I’ve done?

@gousc92: I will if you want.

I believe as long as your transcripts are postmarked before February 1st, you should be fine.

Also, I saw a few people asking about sending in their transcripts prior to submitting their applications. That is completely fine. They will create a file for your name and put all the pieces of your app as it comes in. I sent in my transcripts a week ago or so, and have not completed my app yet. Shouldn’t be a problem at all.

I have 2 AP scores: 5 on both Calculus AB, and BC.

When do i have to send them?

some people said that i will send them later after i got accepted but i am not sure
it is correct. I thought I have to send them with transcript.
someone help me thank you

^ You can send the AP scores now if you want. I usually advise waiting until after you are accepted for 2 reasons:
-#1, USC does not require them to consider your application, so you save yourself the cost of the score report to USC if you are not accepted.

-#2 (this one does not apply to you) Freshmen applicants usually have more AP tests planned for May of their application year, so it makes sense to wait to send scores until those scores are available (usually early July). Again, the rationale there is to save the additional cost of an extra score report.

The financial aid questions above:

The CSS/Profile has nothing to do with AP scores - it is part of your application for financial aid. The complete financial aid application includes the CSS/Profile AND the FAFSA (both due February 2nd, 2012) and signed parent and student tax returns (due March 2nd or as soon as possible thereafter).

The “new” or “returning” student designation: As transfer students, you will be “new” to USC. Returning students are those already attending USC who are applying for aid for a subsequent year. gousc92 is completely correct about the “renewal” feature of the forms allowing you to pre-fill fields, and that feature is a great time-saver.

As far as the question about whether you have to fill out the CSS/Profile for your current school - that depends on the requirements of your current school and whether you will stay there if your transfer plans do not work out. I generally recommend that applicants include their current school on their FAFSA as a just-in-case backup plan - the FAFSA is no charge so it doesn’t cost anything to select an additional school.

Good luck!!!

Hey guys just wanted to clarify what the deal is with the school forums, College Official’s Report, Instructor Evaluation, School Report, Mid-Term Report? Do we need to complete this if were a transfer student?

@gousc,

THANKS!!!

@Mchavez,

Nope. No school reports for transfers. The only thing you need for transfer is your letters of rec (if the major you’re applying to requires them), your college and high school transcripts, essay(s), any supplements, and the paid common application. I don’t think you have to fill out the classes for high school or all the info. Of course, i’m assuming you have 30+ credits…

Thank you for answering me. I have one more question. I have 5 on ap math classes but have really bad socres on ap chem and apes. Is it possible to send only ap calculus score??

How many words did you guys write for the prompt… “Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.” ? Is there a max number of words?

When you print preview, it states 250-500 words.

Mine was a little under 700, I believe…oh, well.

Hey guys I know we dont have to fill out the self report grade section BUT do we HAVE to send in SAT scores? If we do does that mean I need to fill out the SAT section on that page? IF it’s optional i got about an 1880 so I probably shouldn’t submit that correct?

@collegeworries: They say if you have 30 or more credits then you don’t have to report the SAT scores, if you have less than 30 than you do. If you’re unsure because of articulation or something, then I’d just report them because I called USC a while ago about this and the guy told me the >30 or <30 just determines if they’ll CONSIDER your SAT results. He said something to the effect that since many have to send their high school transcripts anyway, the admins can always physically SEE the results on that, regardless. They’ll just consider them more or less heavily.
