Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

Even if I dont have to report them, do I still have to send SAT scores? Thank you by the way

Can I send my hs/college transcripts to usc before turning in the app? Cuz apparently I need a USC ID# before sending transcripts and I need to turn in the app to get an ID#.

Also, are transfer students supposed to leave the entire “Academics” section blank, we don’t self-report any grades? Does USC only want to look at our grades as they appear on our official transcripts?

@poserbruin. I just called USC because I had the same question. The lady who answered the phone told me that if is just placed in a file with your name on it with the rest of your information (other transcripts, letters of rec., etc.).

So, it’s fine that we send in our high school and college transcripts to USC? I submitted my app about three days ago and just sent my official transcripts for both to the undergraduate admissions address…but I didn’t receive my USC id. My professor is also sending in a letter of recommendation. How are they supposed to know if the envelopes belong to my file if I don’t have my usc id on it? Did I screw up? Crap…

Just submitted my transcripts, SAT scores, and Common App.

And finally submitted my Theatre supplement with headshot/resume/etc

Djpsu2015: LOL, relax! It’s fine if you submit your stuff without your USCID. They will file it together just fine. It’s different because instead of immediately assigning us an ID, they will invite us to set an account on their site later. A little tidbit about it is on their USConnect portal. :)

Whew! Thanks for clearing it up gousc! Also, on my official high school transcript, I asked that they put down my test scores anyway. So I don’t need to bother paying the test centers to send my scores, right? I have over 30 credits, so I don’t even think we have to send it in.

@DJpsu2015: No problem! But to be on the safe side, I would advise calling after two weeks to just make sure that USC got the transcripts. I called myself today and they advised me to call on Monday (2 weeks for me) because it wasn’t in the system yet.

And my counselor told me that if you will have over 30 credits by Spring, then don’t send in your scores. Like you said, they can see it on your transcripts. :)

I’ll definitely make a call around the first week of Feb. Ugh. I just wish we can find out sooner if we get in (preferably around March). That would be so nice…but we’ll most likely find out around May, or perhaps later if they ask us for a Spring transcript.

@DJpsu2015: I know, the wait is going to be agonizing. >_<

And I know I’ll get Spring Grade requested for sure, though. Bleh! :(

Same here. I didn’t even put down my mailing address at my current location because i’ll be long gone home by the time Spring semester is over, which is like the second week of May. So, in order to avoid a situation where I will be absent if I get anything by USC in the mail, I put down my sister’s address half-way across the country, so she’ll be the first to find out if I can accepted or rejected.

BLAH. haha. I just need at least a 3.5 gpa so my overall wont change that much.

Haha, I put mine down just in the off chance I do luck out and get a decision early. My school has a mail forwarding thing as soon as the semester ends, so I should be okay. I couldn’t bear a situation where I would need to call and find my decision. It would be so nerve-wracking. >_<!

I need to get my GPA back up to a 3.8. I got an A- in my stupid German so that brought me down. What major are you applying for?

Preference 1: Communication; 2: Art History.

I just talked to my awesome professor and he said he will write very highly of me for my rec, so that takes a little bit of stress off of my back. I’m actually hoping to double major in both of those, so getting into either would be a cherry on the top. I’m also thinking about adding a minor in Comp Sci. or Cinematic Arts. My essay kind of just talked about both interests and how I plan to combine them. You?

My Spring semester gpa was a 3.73, so it’s pretty smack dab in the mid-range for Annenberg. I’m losing so much motivation, though this semester. I’m literally forcing myself to go to the library and coffee shops so I can concentrate my readings. This semester is a reading intensive semester…oh boy.

I have a quick question regarding the common app. Being a 2nd year college student, do you think it would be irrelevant to discuss an experience from high school that helped you understand the importance of something specific that now pertains to your college experience?

Someone brought up a point that it would kind of be irrelevant to do so since I’m already a 2nd year, but I just thought to get other opinions before I proceed. Lol.

@Transferrrrr I think it depends on how significant the experience is. I feel if its something that really does affect you dramatically and who you are/how you think to this day, then you should write about it. just try and make sure they know it is relevant in the writing itself. Maybe even address that directly.

However, if its something that might be kind of vague and general, then I suggest you pick a more recent topic. just my two cents.

If USC is the only school that I am applying to, would this “Note: The Common Application essay should be the same for all colleges. Members that wish to review custom essay responses will request them on their Supplement form.” apply to me? Or would it be acceptable to personalize it more to be a more “Why USC” essay response.

@kaikomai Thanks so much for your opinion! I just kind of made that my hook to introduce my essay. It’s literally like 2 sentences though.

Thanks again!

does usc require letters of recommendation, if so how many?

@strengthftw,

I customized my Common App essay to USC specific because it was the only school I applied to through the Common App. I think it’s totally fine and it’s really up to how you write your essay.

@caveat,

It depends. Which major/school are you looking into? I know that for Dornsife, no recommendation is required, but School of Cinematic Arts require three; for Annenberg requires just one. I’m not sure about Marshall, Viterbi, or the other divisions. It’s listed on the USC website.

On the CommonApp, in the school forms section, there is a counselor report that we need filled out. Does it have to be a secondary school counselor or can i have it filled out by my college counselor?
