@markyang27,

wait so could i have the exact address that i would send my transcripts to please? thanks :]

For the extra circular activities on the common application, it keeps getting cut off, I can’t even explain what I did. What did u guys do?

^Just shorten it as much as you can. You don’t have to write a grandiose description for each. Just write a quick snippet of what you specifically did. For example, DON’T write something like, “I helped set up tables and chairs.” Instead, do something like, “For the ‘XX’ foundation or organization, I assisted ‘XX’ in so and so.” Basically, just be descriptive and concise.

Ah… isn’t it a 1000 character maximum? does that include spaces?

Unfortunately, yeah. I’m pretty sure 1000 characters is about 180 -200 words. Mine was around 180 and it fit perfectly.

I emailed admissions asking about a fee waiver. They said to send a letter from my school saying it will be a financial hardship. Would I do this through my financial aid office? Has anyone else done this? Thanks!

@DJpsu2015: can you elaborate on what you meant in the extracurricular section of the common app, how you said to write it?

@teddy

Think of it as if you are writing a resume. Quick and concise bullet points.

hmm, is this extracurricular prompt the first time that USC has implemented this?
how do you know that they want bullet points and not a story behind it?
I’m guessing by the 1000 character minimum. I already wrote a short paragraph for it so i don’t wanna change it to bullet point form.

@teddygrams,

Sorry if I wasn’t clear with that response.

For example,

“Set up tables, answered phones, and worked at desk.” << THIS IS BAD.

“I am the Diversity Ambassador for the College of Communication and I assist minority students during the academic year and carry out social events. In addition, I helped raise $5,000 for XX.”

Basically, just be more specific and get to the point with good, juicy details.

^ True but if you’re under the “Activities” section you won’t have enough characters to input what you wrote above. I think I did a rough count and it was some where around 100 characters before it wouldn’t let you write anymore.

Oh no for the prompt write an essay. I thought someone was having trouble under the “Activities” section in which case see my above answer above. For the prompt, write a paragraph or two.

ahh, sweet :D

hey guys- just had a couple of questions i was hoping some of you might be able to help me answer.

for international recommendation letters [interned overseas] does my boss have to send them via air mail or can they be sent through fax? if only air mail, what’s the address?

do my bosses have to send a certain form with the recommendation letters?

can we hand deliver transcripts to the admission’s office?

man, time is definitely ticking and i’m stressed out. my GPA is pretty low due to constant jobs to support the family, but i have some great work experience, letters of recommendation from an amazing alumni and i’m a “legacy”. i’m applying for international relations [global business]

feedback? goodluck everyone!

How old is everyone that is transferring?

^I’m 18. Will be turning 19 in March.

So just wondering, about that 30 unit mark as a first year transfer, are they generally suppose to wait until we receive our spring grades and then make their decision ? Furthermore, how would they know as of now to end of fall quarter that we will even meet the 30 mark to determine our acceptance/rejection based solely on our college career versus our high school career?

Also, I noticed on the common application that there wasn’t any space to input our college grades… do we use the school forms or do we just request a transcript to be sent?

From the past threads i’ve seen, most sophomore transfers get a mail asking for their Spring transcripts. I’m assuming they do this to see if you do indeed hit the 30 credit mark and maintain good grades. For now, they assume you will have 30 credits by the time they receive your application. On the common app, there is a section where you put a list of the classes you will be taking, so they will look at that and assume you will meet their requirements. I called and asked one of the reps and this is what he told me.

As for the grade inputs, you don’t even have to bother with that or the school forms. Just send your transcripts.

thanks man!!!
