CrownOftheSea ohhh hahaha I thought I had to take exactly those classes on the sample lol Your response was not confusing at all and I really appreciate it!

I’m pretty sure I fulfilled everything that I could. I followed the articulation agreement. I didn’t take any accounting classes since I ran out of time. It sucks to be indecisive lol I spend 3 years at a CC completing prereqs for psychology for 4 different schools, but I realized I didn’t even want to be a psychologist so a year ago I decided to switch majors. By then it was kind of too late to cram in accounting on top of the ge’s and foreign language classes.

How was WRIT 340 and all the classes you’ve taken so far? Do you have any semesters where you have to take 18 units and was it really difficult. If I’ve taken 3 semesters of a foreign language will I still have to take the placement test? One last question lol are you doing a minor? I’m seriously really nervous… especially since I was so focused on psychology for so long and all of a sudden I have to switch gears and focus on business related topics. I hope the concepts aren’t too hard to understand!

I need to definitely look into the neighborhoods for housing. I was hoping to be able to live close by so I wouldn’t have a long commute (no car). I’m from out of state, so I don’t have any grasp on the neighborhoods at all. This might not be a good thing…I’ve heard some areas around campus are bit sketchy.

Also, is orientation required? I might not be able to go for July 27th, so I wanted to plan accordingly.

If anyone has any information, please let me know.

angieyeh, don’t be nervous! I was like that too when I first transferred in, I was freaking out about not being able to keep up with the work. As long as you go to class and study the material, you should be fine! BTW are you just straight business major or plan to go into accounting?

I haven’t taken 18 units yet but will be for the rest of my time here. WRIT 340 was okay, better if you are a good writer in the first place. I’m actually have a minor, but since I’m also doing a double major, I might drop the minor simply because I don’t want to stay here THAT long.

I’m not sure about the language placement, but I’m pretty sure you don’t have to take it since I didn’t take it and I only took 2 semesters of foreign language at my CC.

CrownoftheSea haha okay I’ll tryy not to be nervous lol I hope by just going to class and studying will be enough. I’m definitely scared that all the studying in the world won’t be enough. Is it really hard to get A’s or A-'s?

Mmmm I’m not too sure about going into accounting… I’ve never taken an accounting class. I just have to research some more before I make these decisions lol Are you doing accounting?

I hope it goes well with the 18 units! I’ve taken 17 before, but a 3 unit class was online so it wasn’t that bad. What are your two majors? Do you know how many more units it takes to major in accounting on top of business? Also how does the 12 Marshall elective units work? Is it kind of like an emphasis on a certain area of business? I want to minor in something, but I have to budget my units wisely so I don’t go over the limit for financial aid.

Alright that’s cool I’ll probably find out soon.

@angie I don’t want to commute longer than an hour, where will you be living or live I read you are from the area if you don’t mind me asking thanks again for the input

Hey guys, I still have the June 1st status as a Dornslife applicant. I hate this waiting game that USC is trying to play with me T_T

If I rose my gpa after submitting my spring grades then I should have a good chance at getting accepted right? After all they would only want our spring grades so that we could prove that we can either be consistent/better. And if they were going to reject me then why would they take so long? THERE ARE SO MANY QUESTIONS RUNNING THROUGH MY MIND RIGHT NOW!!!

angieyeh, it really depends on the class and if you’re in business or in accounting! I know quite a few people like me that struggle to get As but I also know a few people that have gotten As. The GE classes supposedly are easier to get As in, I don’t know from experience since I haven’t taken any of those yet.

I am indeed in accounting, but since you’re probably going to start from the beginning, you can decide if you like it or not. If you get Professor Hopkins, beware of his “accounting parties” haha. Seriously, if you find the intro accounting classes easy then you’re probably made for accounting, ha! a lot of my friends who are business majors think accounting’s quite boring and/or kicking their butts.

As for 18 units, I’m pretty used to it, but not on the level as USC. When I was at CC, I always took 18 units per semester just because I wanted to get out as quickly as possible (still ended up there for 2 years ><)

I’m doing the accounting/business administration double major. A lot of people do that actually because you only need to take a few more classes to get it done. I think if you want to do both its like 164 units total, approximately. As for electives in Marshall, you can either pick all your classes in an emphasis or mix and match. It used to be different but they just changed the curriculum recently.

Definitely plan your courses wisely if you need financial aid. That’s the reason I’m probably dropping my minor since I’ll be running out of aid soon. I don’t really want my parents shelling out almost 60k just so I can finish a minor ><.

Hopefully that wasn’t hard to understand, what I just wrote. Haha

Unfortunately, it seems to be the deadline for spring. My friend just got the ECD box today with the same deadline as you. I guess at this point most people are getting in for spring.

@CrownoftheSea hahaha it’s always a struggle to get A’s, but I’m guessing it’s probably doable. My goal isn’t to get straight A’s since I know it probably won’t happen, but I would like to earn a 3.5+. I want to set realistic goals for myself like joining 1 or 2 clubs and not 5 since I know I won’t keep going lol

hahaha accounting parties? Sounds fancyyy lol I like the idea of being an accountant so I hope I like the classes. If financial aid only covers 144 units, are you appealing to get more financial aid? I’m just afraid they won’t give me more money for an extra semester or 2 then I would have to take out 50K in loans which is sooo much money!

Every thing was very clear! I really appreciate your help

@Beantown I think I might find an apt by USC or I might live at home depending on FA. Will you be taking the bus or will you have a car. Alhambra is pretty safe. It’s also not too far from USC. It’s about 1 hour and 15 minutes by bus, 40 minutes by streets and 20 minutes by freeway (if there’s no traffic), but there isn’t that much to do in Alhambra. You don’t want to live near campus? Also all the cities Ngarcia mentioned are pretty safe areas to live, but Westwood is expensive since it’s in LA and UCLA’s there too. South Pasadena and Pasadena’s nice and someone on the fb group mentioned they found a place north of Korea town, but I don’t know too much about the cities south of USC. Also you can check reported crimes on LA times website. I checked Los Feliz and there was only one crime that was categorized as being violent last week and it was a robbery. Everything else was theft and theft from vehicles. [L.A. Crime News - Los Angeles Times](http://crime.latimes.com/) I hope this helps!

A 3.5 is definitely doable since a friend of mine had like a 3.7 ish the first semester. But almost everyone else I know is like between 3.1-3.3 ish. Not to discourage you though!

Which clubs are you planning on joining? I’m thinking of joining a few myself this year since last year my campus life was so…bland, hah.

As for financial aid, I’m gonna try and see if I can get it for an extra semester. Otherwise I might drop the 2nd major.

@CrownoftheSea hahaha man it sounds soo hard! It may be the motivation I need to not procrastinate. Would it be hard to go to grad school or find a job with a 3.0- 3.3 gpa? Also are there a lot of group projects?

I’m not too sure what kind of clubs I want to join… If my shoulder wasn’t bothering me, I’d probably play club softball, but I also cant risk another concussion so I think that’s out lol. There’s a club called crafting for charity which I can probably join since I recently learned how to crochet :). I’m really excited to make a bunch of USC colored things lol There are some I don’t really know what they do, so I’ll probably find out if there’s a club week thing. What clubs will you be joining and why was your campus life bland? I rather have a bland campus life than a crazy one!

Is the accounting major only 32 extra units on top of the business one? I need 68 units to complete the business degree which is a total of 132 units since I’ll transfer in 64 units. Financial will give us enough money for a total of 144 units. I can be there for 5 semesters with out appealing for more aid I think. The 6th semester would probably be the problem. Do you know how many units it takes to just do accounting?

Haha nice!! How do you like Alhambra? Have you seen any whales in Newport? I found a coupon for whale watching in Newport Beach so I really want to go :p

I got the ecd box!!! I got in for spring and honestly for anyone applying next year or is still waiting don’t give up and keep your head high. I applied as a freshman and My spring grades dropped quite significantly but thankfully I still got in. Just pray and hope for the best, and good luck to all of you!!!

My status changed to April 1st (Sometime last week I was on a cruise ship and checked on saturday). I then checked to see if they magically wanted anymore documents (which they wanted some transcripts). I called admissions at 9 this morning and was told my decision has been made but I NEEDED to call my councilor. I called and left her a message and she called back and woke me up from a nap. She said that I submitted a copy and needed an official copy. She said my decision has been made but couldn’t give me the results. I was wondering in a sleepy haze as to why I was going to spend money to send them more transcripts (figuring I had been rejected, so why bother.) She said I would be notified by mail of my decision. I hazily checked USConnect and got my admission box. I frantically refreshed like 5 times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming!! SPRING 2013 ADMIT!! Woot.

@angieyah, there’s a group project in basically all Marshall classes, so hope you like group assignments, haha. I’m not sure about job prospects, but I’ve heard as long as you have around 3.3-3.4, you shouldn’t have a problem with getting a job here in L.A. Don’t quote me on that though.

I’d love to join a few sports or fun clubs too. Last year I didn’t join any clubs so I got bored real easily after all the studying. Had to go off campus for fun stuff. I actually did crochet way back in the days when someone taught it to me. Hopefully I can join a few sporty clubs to get de-stress, haha.

I see you’ll be coming in as a junior. I think to do a double major with accounting and business you need a total of 160, I’m not sure if its 32 accounting units but sounds about right. There’s quite a bit accounting classes you have to take, a lot of half semester 7 week classes too. Fun times.

I’m also struggling with the 6th semester issue too, not sure how I’m going to deal with it. I’ll let you know if I succeed in getting more money from them (to do just accounting, since I’m going for the CPA route I need total of 150 units, I can somehow manage to do that in 5 semesters. I also transferred in with 64 units). It depends if you want to get the CPA license or not, otherwise I think its total of 144 units? don’t quote me.

And I LOVE Alhambra, my friend and I would drive down Valley Blvd all the time just to get food, whenever we’re done with classes and studying, ahha, so lame.

I actually saw the back of like 2 whales a few months ago here just outside of Newport Bay. I’d encourage you to try it if you don’t get seasick easily, haha.

CrownOfTheSea- How are group projects usually assigned? Do you pick your partners or does the teacher usually assign them? I hate group projects because I usually have to either complete the project myself or correct mistakes. However, im sure it will be VERY different at a school like USC :D

How long does it take you to get to campus from Newport Beach?

@CrownoftheSea hahaha I dont mind them per se, but I do find myself to be very unproductive while in a group setting. I like it when we meet up for 20 minutes, say what we have to do and go off on our merry way. It’s hard to concentrate with a lot of commotion.

Women’s lacrosse is going to Hawaii!! I wanna join their ‘no try out needed’ team. I’m so out of shape after I stopped playing softball

Have you talked to an advisor or FA people about the 6th semester? I looked online for information, but the catalogue is currently not accessible for some reason, but I did find the appeal form online. I think it lets you ask for more money if you state your reason, but i dont know the chances of getting it approved /: I hope you’re able to get more financial aid! I’m not sure about the CPA license, but it is definitely something I am considering. I hear it is reeeealllyyyyy hard though.
